In partnership with some of Canada's most innovative insurance carriers, Rise Health offers Canada's only fully integrated digital employee group benefits solution, offering the most delightful one-stop-shop experience, from plan design to self-enrolment and administration to billing and collection of premiums.
At Rise, we're changing how work happens and how people work. We'd love for you to join us and experience the most positive, challenging, and transformative part of your career.
About the role
Thousands of Canadian companies trust Rise to run their payroll and stay onside with the rules that govern it. When a client hands us their payroll to manage end-to-end, they're trusting us with the thing their people care about most: getting paid correctly and on time. Compliance sits right beside that promise, spanning every offering we sell.
That's where you come in. As Manager of Managed Payroll and Compliance, you'll run our fully managed payroll service day to day and keep client compliance tight across the Rise platform. You'll lead a team of payroll specialists who process and safeguard client payrolls, and you'll be the person who works out how Rise applies payroll and regulatory requirements when a client's situation doesn't match the rulebook. You'll work alongside our support and onboarding teams, so a client dealing with all three still feels like they're dealing with one.
You'll report to our Director of Client Experience. This is a growing service, so there's real room to sharpen how it runs and to take on more as the team builds out.
The day-to-day
Run the fully managed payroll team day to day, owning accuracy and timeliness for every client payroll Rise processes on their behalf.
Keep clients onside with payroll and regulatory requirements, and run the controls that catch problems before a client feels them.
Handle escalations for the complex payroll and compliance questions that don't have a textbook answer.
Tighten the processes and quality checks that let managed payroll take on more clients without losing accuracy.
Coach the payroll specialists on your team and help them grow into more complex work.
Work with the onboarding and support teams so a client moving between them never has to explain their payroll twice.
Bring what your team sees on the front line back to Product and Engineering so the platform handles it next time.
About you
5+ years in payroll, including running full-cycle Canadian payroll for multiple companies or one large, complex one.
Experience leading or mentoring a payroll team. You like making other people better at the work.
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance across provinces, plus the confidence to work through requirements that don't have an obvious answer.
A payroll designation such as PLP or PCP, or equivalent experience.
Good operational instincts: you work from repeatable processes, and you know which steps still need a human's judgment.
Clear communicator who can explain a compliance position to a client, an executive, or a new team member and be understood by all three.
Comfortable working across functions, including Client Experience, Product, and Engineering, to improve the service end to end.
A degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
Bonus: Bilingual proficiency in French and English.
Bonus: Experience with a managed or outsourced payroll service.
