We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced Laboratory Technician III - Clinical Proteomics specializing in complex sample preparation and mass spectrometry in a clinical environment, with a background in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology. The role will be positioned in a regulated lab focussed on providing reliable, accurate and timely results to doctors and patients. It represents a rare opportunity to gain experience in a clinical proteomics lab setting.

The clinical division operates on the leading edge of laboratory test development, bringing new options to patients that can improve their quality of life and assist with disease management. In particular, this role will be supporting our EasyM® service (www.easym.com). EasyM® is an ultrasensitive, non-invasive blood test to monitor minimal residual disease (MRD) in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). EasyM® uses clonotypic peptides mass spectrometry to track M-protein (monoclonal protein) in peripheral blood to extremely low levels, offering patients a easier and non-invasive alternative to track MRD during complete response (CR).

Located at Catalyst137 - a world-class, growth-oriented, start-up and enterprise hub - our team members work with an array of experts in science and business, who will provide mentorship and coaching to the successful candidate, within the largest privately-owned mass spectrometry lab in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage routine testing of samples through all points in the sample preparation workflow, including sample intake, accessioning, preparation, MS analysis, and storage, in accordance with established Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols, safety standards, and defined SOPs.
  • Train and mentor new and existing lab technicians, fostering a collaborative, productive, and highly compliant work environment.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and troubleshooter for all instrumentation, managing preventative maintenance, diagnosing errors, and coordinating repairs.
  • Monitor and ensure the quality and integrity of mass spectrometry data.
  • Perform quality control checks on instruments and equipment, troubleshoot issues, and calibrate instruments as necessary.
  • Record, analyze, and report data using in-house and third-party software tools.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant requirements of the QA system-high attention to detail is required to ensure that results produced are accurate and reliable.
  • Maintain and update all necessary QA documentation.
  • Provide support to the R&D team when necessary.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and audits to maintain lab accreditation and uphold the highest standards of quality assurance.
  • Maintain good laboratory records.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s or Bachelor's degree completed (MSc. preferred), in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience with high complexity workflows, preferably in a regulated lab (e.g. CLIA, GCP, ISO standards), with at least 3 years focused experience in mass spectrometry, preferably orbitrap instruments and associated LC systems.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Willingness to perform routine tasks while focusing on reproducibility and accuracy.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team and to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Assets

  • Experience with proteomics sample preparation.
  • Experience working in a regulated/medical lab environment.

This role is full time, 40hrs per week, and may require the successful candidate to work overtime and some weekends - we will give reasonable notice of any weekend requirements and flexibility to substitute with other days off later in the week.
