About the opportunity:

The Repair and Maintenance Technician will perform repairs, maintenance, and relocation activities of the outside plant fiber network and to include construction elements such as conduit placement, fiber placement, fiber splicing, and some central office work to meet Ting build and maintenance commitments. Repair and Maintenance Technician will take an active role in ensuring all work is done with an emphasis on safety and quality. They will also ensure network documentation is kept current and is reliable for future reference and network maintenance. The Repair and Maintenance Technician will report to the OSP Supervisor.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Always considering Safety First when working and driving
  • Communicating with customers as needed
  • Driving company vehicle
  • Performing repairs, maintenance and relocation activities
  • Assessing different outside plant installation scenarios, and effectively determining required time, approach and equipment
  • Installing middle-mile and last-mile cabling required to connect customers to fiber internet service
  • Splicing fiber optic cabling
  • Working indoors and outdoors
  • Working with hand tools and heavy equipment as needed
  • Working from ladders
  • Liaising with other technicians to ensure expedient repair of the fiber network
  • Ensuring all required materials for installation and maintenance are properly checked out from Inventory
  • Conducting site surveys as required
  • Using locating tools and equipment to properly identify and mark Ting facilities
  • Attending meetings as required
  • Participating in on-call rotation
  • All other duties assigned by leadership

What you’ll bring:

  • Telecommunications and/or Cable experience preferred but not required
  • Fiber optic experience preferred but not required
  • Relevant industry certifications and/or training preferred but not required
  • Strong communication skills required
  • Great customer service skills required
  • Curious to learn and grow
  • Strong communication skills: the ability to effectively communicate in real-time with multiple team members and business partners is required
  • Ability to identify and remedy service affecting problems
  • Ability to work outdoors, and comfort working with hand tools, ladders, and test equipment
Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license with a minimum of two years driving experience
  • Must possess a clean driving record with few to no legal traffic citations within the previous 3 years and no significant infractions within the past 5 years.

The hourly pay for this position is based on an annualized range of $46,750 - $55,000. Range shown in $USD for US residents. Other countries will differ. Range may vary on a number of factors including, but not limited to: location, experience and qualifications.
