About us:

PurposeMed was founded in 2019 with the mission of improving access to complex care for underserved communities. We’ve grown quickly in our first few years, and now our exceptional team serves thousands of patients each month across our multiple verticals.

PurposeMed consists of three complex care business units: Freddie, Frida, and Foria, and partners with Affirming Care Pharmacy. Freddie is focused on improving sexual health through education, prevention, and treatment with a focus on the LGBTQ2S+ community—we’re the #1 rated PrEP provider in North America, serving patients in both Canada and the USA! Frida is changing the lives of patients with easier access to adult ADHD diagnosis, and fast and affordable treatment. Foria Clinic provides trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse Canadians with gender-affirming healthcare. Affirming Care Pharmacy is a specialty pharmacy with locations in Calgary, Alberta, and Mississauga, Ontario. This partnership provides our patients with an end-to-end healthcare experience, from treatment, to prescription delivery, to continuous affirming care.

We’re proud to be ranked #2 on Deloitte’s 2024 list of Canada’s 50 fastest-growing tech companies and recognized as one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures for two consecutive years. Driven by a strong mission, our team is passionate about making healthcare accessible to those who need it most—and we make sure to have fun along the way!

Who we hope to find:

PurposeMed is looking for a proactive, business-minded Senior Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, you’ll be the go-to legal partner for our expanding U.S. operations and will help us navigate complex healthcare, privacy, and regulatory landscapes.

This is an opportunity to directly shape the future of digital health compliance while working with smart, values-driven people who move fast and care deeply about patient outcomes.

While your focus will be on U.S. operations, you’ll collaborate with our Canadian legal team and cross-functional partners to support broader organizational goals. If you enjoy problem-solving across new markets and want to grow beyond pure regulatory work into corporate, employment, and strategic advisory matters, this role is for you.

In this role, you’ll make an impact by:

Leading U.S. Healthcare and Regulatory Compliance

  • Serving as day-to-day legal advisor for U.S. healthcare, regulatory, and compliance matters.
  • Translating complex regulations into clear, actionable business guidance across departments.
  • Overseeing HIPAA, AKS, 340B, consumer protection, and state licensing compliance.
  • Managing state-by-state entity, pharmacy, and provider registrations.
  • Supporting 340B program contracting and HRSA filings.

Supporting Commercial and Strategic Growth

  • Drafting, negotiating, and closing a wide range of commercial agreements including Pharmacy Services, Clinical Services, and Vendor contracts.
  • Partnering with leadership on M&A, strategic collaborations, and complex transactions.
  • Developing and maintaining contract templates and management systems.
  • Supporting payor and PBM negotiations to align legal and business strategy.

Strengthening Risk and Governance

  • Proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks across operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with FDA, FTC, and state consumer laws impacting marketing and telehealth.
  • Responding to privacy or clinical incident investigations and regulatory audits.
  • Advising senior leadership on key risk trends and compliance strategy.

Collaborating and Building Systems

  • Coordinating with external counsel and internal teams for smooth execution.
  • Partnering with Growth, Marketing, Clinical, and Product teams to provide proactive legal counsel on the feasibility and compliance of new business strategies.
  • Building scalable legal processes that enable speed and compliance as we grow.

We need someone who has:

  • A J.D. (or LL.B.) with admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (dual qualification in Canada a plus)
  • 6+ years of experience in health law, regulatory compliance, or healthcare transactions
  • Hands-on experience advising telehealth, pharmacy, or multi-state healthcare organizations
  • A deep understanding of HIPAA, state health laws, and 340B or pharmacy compliance
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills
  • The ability to prioritize and work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
  • A collaborative mindset and practical approach—comfortable saying “yes, if” rather than “no”
  • A passion for healthcare innovation and improving access to care

It would also be great if you have:

  • Experience with 340B, PBM, or reimbursement structures
  • M&A or venture-backed healthcare experience
  • Prior in-house experience

Compensation:

  • $160,000 - $200,000 USD a year
  • Earn stock options through our Equity Incentive Plan—connect your efforts to PurposeMed’s growth as we work together to improve the lives of our patients across North America.
  • The compensation listed above refers to a yearly base salary that may vary depending on a candidate's relevant qualifications, knowledge, competencies and work experience, and other factors including market conditions. Base pay is just one aspect of our total rewards at PurposeMed—see our other exciting benefits below! (Please note that the benefits listed are specific to Canadian, full-time team members and may be adjusted based on your location or employment type).
