PurposeMed was founded in 2019 with the mission of improving access to complex care for underserved communities. We’ve grown quickly in our first few years, and now our exceptional team serves thousands of patients each month across our multiple verticals.

PurposeMed consists of three complex care business units: Freddie, Frida, and Foria, and partners with Affirming Care Pharmacy. Freddie is focused on improving sexual health through education, prevention, and treatment with a focus on the LGBTQ2S+ community—we’re now the largest HIV prevention service in Canada! Our second vertical, Frida, is focused on improving mental health and happiness through education, diagnosis, and treatment. Frida is changing the lives of patients with easier access to adult ADHD diagnosis, and fast and affordable treatment. Foria was recently launched in 2023 and is a virtual clinic providing trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse Canadians with gender-affirming healthcare. Affirming Care Pharmacy is a specialty pharmacy with locations in Calgary, Alberta, and Mississauga, Ontario. This partnership provides our patients with an end-to-end healthcare experience, from treatment, to prescription delivery, to continuous affirming care.

Location: Remote (Canada)

Though we have an office based in Calgary, this is a remote position that is open to candidates across Canada.

PurposeMed's office is located on the unceded and traditional territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot First Nation tribes of Siksika, the Piikuni, the Kainai, the Stoney Nakoda First Nations tribes of Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley and the Tsuut’ina First Nation. The city of Calgary is also homeland to the historic Northwest Métis and to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.

Who we hope to find:

PurposeMed is looking for a Manager, Engineering who can assist our team to achieve its mission of upholding engineering standards and operational excellence, and ultimately delivering value to our patients, clinicians, and the business. Reporting into the Director, Engineering, you will join our larger Product, Design, and Engineering team. You will coach and mentor developers to help scale, maintain, and guide the technical tradeoffs between systems across our software platform.

In this role, you’ll make an impact by:

  • Guiding and mentoring members of the engineering team
  • Providing coaching in 1:1s and running performance reviews while providing ongoing guidance for the team
  • Creating a positive, diverse, and inclusive environment for your team to bring their best selves to work
  • Fostering strong relationships and effective communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Working in close collaboration with Product, Design & Data leadership on improving PDDE’s ways of working within our POD/Triad model
  • Supporting technical strategy and working with the team on defining and setting the product’s technical direction
  • Communicating ongoing initiatives, blockers, and working with team members on prioritizing tasks that ensure our development teams are set up for success
  • Gathering requirements for improvements and translating them into architecture that leads to a scalable platform

We need someone who has:

  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering with a focus on platform development and infrastructure
  • Engineering management experience with direct reports, and a genuine excitement for helping to grow people's careers
  • Experience with distributed systems, cloud computing and scaling infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • A passion for platform services, working with other developers on understanding their pain points, and ensuring they have the tools and infrastructure they need to deliver value to customers
  • Experience managing relationships with external vendors and account managers
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders within the organization, such as Product Management, Product Design, Data, and various business stakeholders


  • $161,000 - $177,000 CAD a year
