Your Role

We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the development of innovative tools and experiences that empower educators and enhance learning outcomes. You’ll guide multiple engineering teams in building scalable, high-quality solutions that help teachers engage their students, streamline their workflows, and unlock new ways to deliver impactful learning content.

Working closely with product and design partners, you’ll oversee delivery across interconnected projects, driving technical excellence, aligning architecture with long-term goals, and ensuring our work directly supports the educators and learners who use our platform every day. This is an opportunity for a proven leader to operate at scale, grow emerging developers, and shape the future of how millions of students learn through play.

Your Impact

  • Lead multiple engineering teams or a complex, multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, user-focused solutions that directly improve educator and learner experiences.

  • Manage and develop a team that may include senior ICs and staff developers, fostering leadership growth, resilience, and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.

  • Oversee multi-team delivery by coordinating planning, aligning roadmaps, resolving interdependencies, and managing shared risks, even when navigating competing priorities or differing viewpoints.

  • Guide architectural decisions and ensure consistency in engineering practices, balancing short-term needs with long-term scalability and business impact.

  • Partner with Product, Design, and Data stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into coordinated execution plans, building alignment through clear, persuasive communication.

  • Drive cross-team technical investments that improve system health, developer velocity, and cost efficiency, ensuring they are understood and supported across stakeholders.

  • Promote a culture of ownership, open feedback, and continuous improvement across your teams, enabling healthy debate and constructive resolution of challenges.

  • Support hiring strategy, onboarding standards, and succession planning to strengthen team capabilities over the long term.

About You

  • Proven experience managing multiple engineering teams or leading at a system level within a large, complex team.

  • Experience managing senior-level individual contributors and guiding technical leaders to navigate complex delivery challenges.

  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to guide architecture, evaluate tradeoffs, and uphold engineering quality across teams.

  • Skilled in cross-team delivery planning and coordination, with a track record of navigating dependencies and maintaining alignment in the face of competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to grow and mentor technical leaders, foster collaboration, and improve team health at scale.

  • Able to engage in healthy conflict, influence outcomes, and drive consensus without compromising on quality or user impact.

  • Highly skilled communicator who can tailor messaging for audiences ranging from executive stakeholders to individual contributors, ensuring clarity, context, and shared understanding at all levels.

  • Experienced in fostering collaboration and improving team health at scale through coaching, mentoring, and cultivating a culture of trust and accountability.

  • Proven success in improving processes, scaling best practices, and driving continuous improvement across multiple teams.

Bonus Points

  • History of successfully implementing department-wide technical initiatives or standards.

  • Experience with education technology or product-led organizations at scale.

  • Familiarity with our tech stack: AWS, Kubernetes, TypeScript/Python, React, GraphQL, Datadog, Sentry, Databricks, Airflow, and DBT.

Our Tech Stack

  • We run on AWS with a modern cloud-native architecture using Kubernetes for container orchestration.

  • Our backend services are primarily TypeScript and Python.

  • Frontend development is React to a GraphQL API.

  • Monitoring and observability are via Datadog and Sentry.

  • We use Databricks, Airflow, and DBT for data engineering.
