We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Core Platform Engineering team in a hybrid role! You are experienced and passionate about building products and systems that make a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of people and their health. What You’ll Do
- Lead the design, evolution, and reliability of critical backend systems and cross-cutting platform services.
- Enhance core systems such as authentication, observability, feature management, and communication infrastructure.
- Drive best practices in testing and CI/CD to improve developer velocity and product reliability.
- Tackle technical debt through thoughtful refactors and architectural improvements.
- Ensure security, privacy, and compliance for sensitive health and identity data.
- Proactively identify and address performance bottlenecks within the backend ecosystem.
- Mentor engineers and elevate technical standards across teams.
- Collaborate with Product, Security, QA, and Clinical stakeholders to align platform direction.
- Evaluate and advocate for technologies that enhance system robustness and developer experience.
What You’ll Bring
- Deep experience in backend engineering (typically 10+ years), including platform or infrastructure-focused work.
- A self-starter mindset — able to operate independently, thrive amid ambiguity, ask the right questions, and plan complex work in clear, achievable phases.
- Proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Flask) and building scalable, production-grade systems on AWS.
- Expertise in CI/CD (GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and modern DevOps workflows.
- Proven experience evolving systems from monoliths to microservices (REST, GraphQL, event-driven).
- Strong foundation in data design (Postgres, DynamoDB, or similar).
- A thoughtful, security-first approach — especially with PII or healthcare data.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, especially in ambiguous environments.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with secure OAuth-based systems (Auth0 or similar).
- Familiarity with security/compliance frameworks (HIPAA, ISO 27001/13485).
- Exposure to frontend technologies such as (React, TypeScript) and an appreciation for seamless end-to-end development.
- Experience ensuring reliable service integrations through contract or end-to-end testing (e.g., Pact, Playwright, Cypress).
- Knowledge of healthcare data standards (DICOM, PACS, EMR, HealthLake).
- Background in fast-scaling startups or evolving engineering orgs.

- The base salary for this role ranges from $180,000- $210,000 in local currency, depending upon experience and geographic location
