Title: Head of People Operations
Location: The candidate must be located in Canada, with a strong preference for someone local to the greater Toronto area. Our HQ office is located in Toronto, ON, Canada, but the role is remote/hybrid/flexible.

Position Overview:
Practice Better is looking to welcome a talented Head of People Operations to our growing People team. This role will oversee the People operations, programs and processes that scale globally and ensure our people have amazing experiences at work. This leader will design and develop new programs and initiatives to deliver amazing employee experiences and ensure our People practices and culture are well looked after and thoughtfully curated as we continue to grow.
This is a remote-first role, though we have office space in Toronto for those in the Greater Toronto Area looking to use a formal office space. This individual will manage two direct reports and will be a hands-on operator, eager to both lead the team and function, as well as roll up their sleeves to do the day to day work with the team.
What You'll Be Doing
- This role will be responsible for overseeing Practice Better’s culture, building and executing Talent Management programs, People Tech and Analytics, and Operations which includes HR compliance, policies, immigration, and benefits. This role will also oversee Talent Acquisition and recruiting.
- Culture & Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging – intentionally care for and celebrate Practice Better’s culture, ensuring that we are fostering inclusivity in everything we do, bringing in talent that is reflective of the diverse communities and practitioners we serve and creating the conditions for our team to feel psychologically safe and supported to do their best work. This work will also include overseeing our Culture programming strategies with a focus on DEIB and inclusivity.
- Talent Management – oversee performance management programs and initiatives to support the development of a culture of continuous feedback. This will also include HR Business partnering responsibilities and coaching managers on effective performance management practices with deep care and consideration for each individual’s experience
- Employee Listening and Analytics – design and execute a variety of important surveys to consistently gather and analyze data on employee sentiment. This includes annual engagement surveys, quarterly pulse surveys, and DEIB surveys to measure and act on the experiences of our people.
- People and Talent Acquisition Operations, Systems and Compliance– Own the delivery, documentation, and effectiveness of core People and TA operations functions and oversee a direct report who manages full lifecycle employee processes. This includes designing delightful onboarding programs and thoughtful and efficient offboarding. This leader will also oversee all People systems, people and talent acquisition analytics reporting and pipeline/candidate funnel reporting, compliance matters, policies, leave administration, and benefits/perks.
- People Operations Projects — execute a variety of People projects and initiatives as Practice Better scales. These could range in subject matter from projects that support scaling our culture to implementing career-leveling systems to Leadership Training - all with the goal of supporting our employees in growing their careers and skills while having an incredible experience growing as people while at Practice Better.
- People Strategy – Contribute to the creation of People team strategy and roadmaps and execute programs and processes to support our People Philosophy and functional goals
- Talent Acquisition – Oversee talent acquisition for Practice Better including management of our lead recruiter. Provide guidance on recruitment and sourcing best practices and work in partnership with recruiting and management teams to attract high caliber talent to practice better while ensuring an amazing candidate experience.
Who You Are
- Self-directed, highly motivated People Operations leader with 7+ years of progressive experience in either Canada and/or the US, ideally in a high-growth, high-tech environment
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in leading and managing in a people-manager role
- Has a strong understanding of the operational and cultural needs to support a scaling and growing company
- Strong People Operations expertise with technology, systems implementations, process documentation, reporting, and data and analytics
- Ability to work as a "hands-on" manager and willingness to get things done
- Excellent project management and change management experience is a must. You are the type of individual who is comfortable developing project plans and timelines and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure deliverables are met with the desire to self-manage progress against milestones with a high degree of accountability and personal urgency
- Experience with talent acquisition and/or recruiting practices and processes; knowledgeable in sourcing practices for technical talent, ideally within a tech or software company
- Extremely empathetic and service-oriented. The ideal candidate will work in service of creating exceptional experiences and interactions to serve our internal customers- our people.
- Extremely detail and process-oriented, to effectively manage multiple priorities while making meaningful progress against short and long-term departmental and company goals
- Takes pride in quality, consistency, and empathy, guiding principles to drive everyday work and projects

- Proficient with People Tech systems, experience with Lattice and/or BambooHR strongly preferred; Well-versed in Google Suite (docs, sheets, etc.) and Notion
