Your Role At A Glance

The Director, Business Development conducts in-depth research and analysis on market trends, competitor strategies, and industry developments to inform strategic planning and identify growth opportunities. They evaluate potential strategic opportunities, including partnerships, acquisitions, business models, and investments, through comprehensive financial modeling, due diligence, and risk assessment. Additionally, they assist in the execution of strategic transactions, including deal structuring, negotiation, and integration planning. The role also involves preparing comprehensive reports and presentations for executives, synthesizing complex information into clear and concise insights.

How You’ll Drive Success

Leadership

  • The Director provides the direction and sets the strategy for the team, gathering and leveraging corporate objectives and operational planning inputs to support the departmental objectives.
  • The Director also gathers important information regarding risks and opportunities for impending and ongoing projects, translating this information into fact-based and well-reasoned insights on the valuation and structural impact of each project engagement.
  • This leadership position requires continual interactions with both internal and external business leaders to drive alignment of current business development opportunities, and to ensure that internal business development processes and standards are adhered to.

Strategy

  • Evaluate potential strategic opportunities, including partnerships, acquisitions, and investments, through comprehensive financial modeling, due diligence, and risk assessment.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on market trends, competitor strategies, and industry developments to inform strategic planning and identify emerging trends and growth opportunities.
  • Lead price modelling and decision-making efforts for the Mastercam product line, including license models (subscription, perpetual, consumption, etc.), bundles of internal solutions, and bundling of other Sandvik and 3rd-Party offerings.
  • Work cross functionally across the Intelligent Manufacturing ecosystem, identifying cross-business unit collaboration, projects and initiatives that will maximize our Mastercam and sister BU software offerings, enabling innovative go-to-market strategies that focus on the combined strength of the software businesses.

Research & Analytics

  • Provide research, modeling, and financial analysis of impending and on-going business development efforts; refining and enhancing market research and strategic fit analyses previously initiated by others.
  • Provide estimates of revenue and profitability of projects initiated, providing a multi-year project view and ROI analysis.
  • Develop operating models that are highly flexible and allow for scenario planning, with the purpose of enabling changes to the model on a real-time basis.

Collaboration

  • This is a collaborative role that will partner with Internal (legal, commercial, etc.) and External (sister Business Units within Intelligent Manufacturing, prospects, or tangential enterprises) customers in the coordination and delivery of approved projects.
  • The Director will work with the Executive leadership to ensure a well communicated, balanced, and comprehensive analysis for each proposed project, and for approved transaction progress, during the execution phase of each approved project.

Knowledge & Other Duties

  • The Director is responsible for maintaining knowledge of all activities of the department, keeping up with the industry’s best practices, and maintaining a high-performance level with respect to project completion and integration.
  • The Director also keeps up with legislation and regulatory policies governing merger and acquisition transactions within the business’s jurisdiction of operation, ensuring all business development activities fall within the confines of these policies and legislation
  • The Director, Business Development also performs similar duties as delegated by the BU President or Executive Team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Talents We’re Seeking

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years proven experience in corporate development, business operations, or strategic analysis, preferably within the technology or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong financial modeling skills and proficiency in conducting valuation analysis, including M&A modeling.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis and statistical techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and draw actionable insights

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey findings to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • A track record of working in a team environment successfully supporting others.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as calculator, telephone systems, company network and familiarity with CRM tools.
