Your Role at a Glance

The Sr. Software Engineer will join the toolpath systems development team, contributing mathematical expertise to the design of algorithms that precisely and efficiently control milling machines in the production of precision parts.

As part of the toolpath development team, the role involves enhancing what matters most to customers—efficiency and quality of toolpath motion. A wide range of skills will be applied to tackle engaging mathematical challenges involving large datasets.

Success in this position requires strong mathematical ability, a passion for solving complex problems, and a deep dislike for inefficiency. Expertise in designing algorithms that maximize hardware performance is essential. A continuous drive for improving software development practices and a commitment to writing clean, well-documented code are highly valued. Initiative and strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues are also important.

How You’ll Drive Success

Software Development & Problem Solving

  • Design, develop, and test software to resolve defects and implement user stories.
  • Utilize and improve modern development practices and tools to solve complex problems.
  • Continuously expand expertise in key product domains.

Team Collaboration & Communication

  • Proactively communicate project status with stakeholders across the company.
  • Coordinate with team members on large-scale projects and implementation strategies.
  • Lead and contribute to planning meetings related to assigned areas.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Act as a domain expert and lead on major product areas.
  • Mentor other developers to build software engineering expertise.
  • Lead other developers to ensure proper unit test coverage.
  • Conduct peer reviews and share knowledge with the team.

Project Management & Execution

  • Break down and detail user stories and defects for accurate implementation.
  • Lead large-scale projects, coordinating work across multiple developers.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

The Talents We’re Seeking

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • A graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field is desirable.
  • 10-14 years of experience building commercial software in either C# or C++.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of tradeoffs between Object-Oriented and Functional Programming.
  • Proficiency in Data-Parallel Programming.
  • Solid foundation in Linear Algebra and Computational Geometry.
  • Familiarity with iterative computational techniques, such as the Conjugate Gradient Method.
  • Comfortable with standard Software development practices including source control, peer reviews, and unit testing.
  • Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Believes in knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with FEM as applied to physics-based machining.
  • Experience with Volumetric and Surface Mesh Processing.
  • Knowledge of 3/5-axis machining algorithms for roughing and finishing.
  • Experience with Computational Physics algorithms.
  • Familiar with Parallel C++ Design Patterns and the C++ Standard Library.
  • Experience writing GPGPU or SIMD code.
  • Experience with CNC machining.
  • Worked in an agile (Scrum, Kanban) software development environment before.
