Opportunity Snapshot

Pixieset is growing, and we’re hiring a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead multiple Engineering teams building and delivering impactful customer-facing applications for photographers and creative professionals. As a key decision-maker on our Engineering leadership team, you’ll help define and execute our technical vision, strategy, and objectives - scaling our product and engineering practices as we continue to expand.

You’ll partner closely with Product and Design leadership to align on priorities, translate the roadmap into strong execution, and enable teams to deliver reliably. In this role, you’ll foster a culture of engineering excellence by strengthening our approach to delivery, quality, reliability, and innovation. With over 1 million users worldwide, your leadership will directly shape Pixieset into a best-in-class platform for our community of creators.

Your Impact

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire multiple high-performing teams to deliver best-in-class customer-facing web and mobile applications
  • Plan and drive execution across multiple concurrent initiatives, balancing priorities, scope, timelines, and quality
  • Oversee application engineering from development and release through ongoing performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
  • Define and drive technical vision, strategy, and measurable goals across teams to align with business objectives and the product roadmap
  • Partner cross-functionally to define success metrics, balance delivery with technical debt, and drive innovative, data-informed solutions
  • Advocate for Engineering and the customer experience by aligning technology investments with long-term business outcomes
  • Set and uphold high standards across software quality, security, operational excellence, and customer-focused engineering practices
  • Develop strong leaders and teams through 1:1s, coaching, performance management, career development, and hiring to support continued growth

Role Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in application development, with deep expertise designing and operating high-volume, highly available, scalable backend services and web applications in production
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow high-performing teams through coaching, feedback, and career development, including direct people management and experience managing and developing managers
  • Strong knowledge of Agile delivery, modern DevOps principles, security best practices, and cloud-based application development, with demonstrated ownership of operational reliability, incident response, and root cause analysis
  • Proven ability to engage in meaningful technical discussions with staff-level engineers, provide architectural guidance, and drive innovation - balancing near-term delivery with long-term technical health, including technical debt management
  • Strong technical judgment and a people-centric leadership approach, with exceptional interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills; able to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps and measurable outcomes
  • Track record of building and scaling high-performing teams and engineering culture, leading through action, accountability, and high standards, while staying hands-on and close to the codebase, tools, and systems
  • Thrives in a dynamic, continuous delivery environment, bringing high ownership, strong attention to detail, and a passion for delivering world-class software - paired with experience driving outcomes through metrics/KPIs and responsible resource planning

The typical salary range for this position is CAD $185,250 - $246,750 annually. Salary offered will be based on skills, experience and market data.
