Due to our rapid growth, Intero Integrity Services, has a newly created position for a Quality Engineering Specialist- North America based in our Toronto location
Position Summary
The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality are achieved while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and client specifications utilizing the Integrated Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental Management System (QSHE).
The role requires a hands-on approach, working with the Team and interacting with the frontline and other employees, to achieve the Quality requirements, objectives and Key performance metrics
The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of quality management systems, ISO standards, auditing, and a passion for continuous improvement. This role will require strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and quality. Prior experience in the pipeline inspection or O&G Services industry is an asset.
Responsibilities
Quality Management & Process Improvement:
- Assist in the development and implementation of a QSHE Management System to ensure pipeline inspections are adhering to strict quality standards throughout the entire inspection process to meet or exceed customer satisfaction.
- Deploy continuous improvement initiatives using tools like Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), FMEA, DOE and other 5-Core Tools.
- Identification and resolution of process inefficiencies or bottlenecks, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive improvement.
- Oversee, manage, and monitor quality assurance, quality control, and perform internal audits, ensuring adherence to the QSHE, industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Work with various internal teams to develop and implement streamlined procedures across the functional areas to ensure customer satisfaction and safety.
- Assist in fostering an innovative culture using Innovation Management Methodologies.
Quality Documentation & Reporting:
- Generate quality assurance documentation, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality reports, dashboard KPI’s, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action plans (CAPAs).
Non-Conformance & Corrective Actions:
- Investigate non-conformance issues and work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Track non-conformances, analyze trends, and prepare reports on the effectiveness of corrective actions.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce errors, and maintain high-quality standards.
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management System (QSHE) to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, API, ASME, TSSA and other relevant industry standards.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Provide guidance and lead cross-functional teams in fostering a quality mindset and drive alignment on project goals, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, project management and field inspection to build a high-performing organization.
- Participate in APQP, project launch meetings, and provide quality-related updates to stakeholders, including risk assessments, audit results, and compliance status.
Risk Management & Safety:
- Conduct regular safety and quality audits of inspection processes to ensure a safe working environment and ensure our quality standards are maintained throughout all phases of the pipeline inspection. Promote a safety-first mindset within the team.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in ISO Management Systems (9001, 45001, 14001, etc.). with at least 2 years in a cross-functional leadership position. Experience with implementing quality systems in either Oil & Gas Services, Automotive, Medical, or Aerospace industries.
- Experience working with service quality standards, Quality Management Systems (QMS), and methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, or Total Quality Management (TQM).
- Proven experience in conducting audits, process evaluations, and leading root cause analysis.
- Understanding industry standards and regulations, including API, ASME, ISO 9001, and other relevant codes for pipeline inspection.
- Proficiency in the use of quality and improvement tools (e.g., root cause analysis, failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), risk analysis, statistical process control, APQP, 5S, pareto analysis, check sheets, visual SWD, etc.).
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret valid conclusions based on inference and data analysis.
- Strong project management skills, with experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex quality issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to travel within the region as required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerBi reporting, Artificial intelligence for enabling data analysis, QA/QC software, and ERP systems.
What you should bring to the team
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification in Quality (CQE, ASQ), Lean Six Sigma Certification (Black Belt Certification preferred).
- Certifications in pipeline inspection (e.g., API 1169, NACE, AWS, or equivalent) are considered an asset.
