Position Title: Controller

Position Reports Into: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Role Type: Full-time salaried

Location: Fully Remote

Vacancy: This is a new role

Compensation:

  • Full Benefits (health, dental, vision, etc)
  • Base Salary: $110,000 to $150,000
  • Company Equity: $0 to $80,000

Role Description

The Controller will be overseeing not just Perch, but all related entities. This encompasses our technology, mortgage brokerage and mortgage fund vehicles. You’re not just here to push paper, you dig into the numbers for key insights and spark the right conversations with the various business owners to drive results.

What You’ll Be Doing

1.Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Own month/quarter/year end processes
  • Satisfy ongoing reporting obligations (ex: borrowing base reporting, quarterly investor reporting, etc.)
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure compliance with accounting standards
  • Manage bookkeeping services

2. Controls, Compliance & Governance

  • Design and maintain internal controls and financial policies
  • Coordinate with external accountants, lawyers and auditors as required
  • Support regulatory, investor, and lender reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial and regulatory obligations

3.Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support management decisions
  • Work with business units to evaluate various corporate opportunities and quantify expected benefits

4.Systems & Processes

  • Own accounting systems and financial tools
  • Improve processes to support scale, automation, and efficiency
  • Help integrate new products, entities, or financing structures into reporting

Skills Required

Need to Have

  • 5+ years experience in the financial sector as a Controller, Accountant, FP&A or related role
  • High proficiency with online accounting systems (ideally QBO)
  • High proficiency with BI tools (ideally Microsoft PowerBI)
  • CPA or CFA Designation
  • Experience working with fund structures (MIC, GP/LP, SPV, etc) and capital structures (ex: Debt facility, securitization, etc)
  • Very high attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Individual contributor oriented. At Perch we’re big on automated and scalable systems, so the finance/accounting function will remain a small team
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial information clearly to stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Experience with SR&ED and familiarity with government grants/programs
  • Experience with intercompany transactions
  • Ability to code and independently build your own automations/systems (ex: OAuth flow to sync QBO transactions into a SQL server to pull in actuals)
  • Experience working with various capital structures in mortgage fund structures (ex: debt facilities, securitization, secondaries, etc)
