Job Overview

Nuvei is currently seeking a lawyer in Canada to fill a maternity leave replacement position as Legal Counsel. We offer a flexible work approach and will consider applicants who wish to work either remotely or at our Montreal office location. The ideal candidate has 5 years of experience in corporate, commercial and/or transactional law. He or she has experience working in regulated industries, and preferably has a working knowledge of anti-money laundering regulations and regulations affecting money service businesses and the payments industry. We seek a colleague who is resourceful, autonomous and efficient. He or she has great ease working alone as well as within a team environment. The ideal candidate is able to handle a variety of issues within tight deadlines, this person has a great sense of professionalism and excels under pressure.

Responsibilities

The Legal Counsel will participate in the drafting, negotiation and management of various agreements, assist with corporate governance matters for Nuvei and its subsidiaries and provide support on global transactions, reorganizations, sale of assets and joint ventures. In addition, the Legal Counsel will support on various legal matters relating to Nuvei’s activities and operations including intellectual property, regulatory, litigation and other corporate activities. The Legal Counsel will also be expected to work in close collaboration with other internal stakeholders such as Compliance, Finance, Tax as well as the Commercial and Regulatory Legal teams.

Qualifications

  • Member in good standing of a Canadian bar association.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment; meet tight deadlines and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, analyze and report on legal documents.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Great ability to develop interpersonal relationships.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in corporate, commercial and transactional law in private practice or in-house for a large organization.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations impacting the payments industry.
  • Experience working for a Public company or for a regulated organization in the payments industry is an asset.

Working Language

  • English (written and spoken) is the language used most of the time, as work colleagues and clientele are both geographically dispersed within and outside of Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
  • Ability to speak French, Portuguese, or Spanish is an asset.
