This is a builder role — ideal for someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves while also preparing the company for future capital raises, government contracts, and audit readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with:
  • ASPE

  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and working capital.
  • Lead year-end processes and coordinate external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Oversee and review project RFP and statement of work details.

  • Support pricing and bid analysis for government contracts.
  • Monitor project budgets vs. actuals.
  • Track deferred revenue, accrued revenue, and contract assets/liabilities.

3. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning

  • Develop annual operating budgets and rolling forecasts.
  • Prepare board-ready financial reporting packages.
  • Build financial models to assess:
  • Geographic expansion
  • Staffing needs
  • Infrastructure investments
  • Technology development
  • Conduct scenario planning (e.g., election cycle variability).
  • Manage runway and capital planning.

4. Regulatory & Governance Compliance (Canada-Focused)

  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Elections Canada regulations (where applicable)
  • Provincial electoral bodies (as required by contracts)
  • Maintain proper documentation for government audits.
  • Ensure proper handling of public funds where applicable.
  • Support procurement compliance and contract reporting obligations.

5. Capital Raise & Growth Readiness

  • Ensure compliance with public-sector contract terms.
  • Provide project margin reporting and forecasting.
  • Partner closely with operations to ensure financial discipline.

As the company scales, this role will:

  • Build investor-ready financial models.
  • Prepare data rooms and due diligence materials.
  • Support equity or debt financing processes.
  • Establish reporting frameworks for investors and lenders.
  • Advise on capital structure and long-term funding strategy.

6. Systems & Infrastructure Development

  • Select, implement, or optimize accounting/ERP systems.
  • Build scalable reporting dashboards.
  • Document financial policies and procedures.
  • Establish approval workflows and controls suitable for government-facing operations.

Qualifications

Education

  • CPA (Canada) designation strongly preferred
