About the role
We are looking for a Data Scientist to help us harness electronic health record data for meaningful clinical insights. This role will focus on scoping and building predictive models and algorithms to analyze complex clinical data. The Data Scientist will collaborate with the Product and Clinical teams to drive improvements in patient care.
This role offers a hybrid work environment, balancing remote flexibility with the ability for in-person collaboration. Our offices are located in Kitchener, Ontario.
What you'll do
- Perform statistical analysis on observational health record data to characterize patient treatment pathways and identify areas for improvement.
- Design methods to extract clinical features (e.g. blood loss during surgery, sepsis onset) from structured and unstructured health record data.
- Develop statistical models and machine learning algorithms to monitor patient health after surgery.
- Collaborate with clinicians to understand center-specific standards of care and identify critical gaps.
- Drive product innovation by identifying impactful clinical prediction targets and shaping FluidAI’s product roadmap.
- Communicate data findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to publications and presentations that showcase FluidAI’s data-driven advancements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Biostatistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in data science or analytics, preferably in healthcare or medical devices.
- Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL, with experience in machine learning frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn).
- Familiarity with clinical data, such as EMR/EHR or biosignal data, and experience with healthcare regulations.
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis, experimental design, and data mining techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills for presenting findings and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Bonus Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Data Science, Biostatistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven ability in a product-focused data science role, where models are deployed into real-world applications.
- Proficiency in natural language processing (NLP) techniques for extracting insights from unstructured text.
- Understanding of medical code sets, including ICD-10, CPT, LOINC, and RxNorm.
- Experience working with the OMOP Common Data Model and OHDSI software.
- Experience publishing findings in scientific journals or presenting at industry conferences.
