Join us to build a more rewarding financial future for all Canadians

At Neo, we’re on a mission to build a more rewarding financial future for all Canadians. Life at a rapidly expanding tech startup isn’t for everyone. It’s complex, fast-paced, high-pressure, but also incredibly fulfilling. Since its founding in 2019, Neo has gained incredible traction and is one of the fastest-growing fintech companies in Canada.

The Role

At Neo, we empower people to get the most out of their money and time. We're a tech company reimagining everyday banking from the ground up to create rewarding experiences and build community for all Canadians. We're looking for passionate go-getters who want to move fast and create a lasting impact.

Neo Financial is looking for a full-time Senior Internal Controls Specialist to join our team in Calgary. Our Risk & Compliance team navigates through a fast-paced environment and we know how to switch gears to adapt to any scenario. We strive to make things better, simpler and stronger. Make your mark by addressing the dynamic and ever changing landscape of risk and compliance, alongside some of Canada’s most successful leaders and tech minds.

What you'll be doing:

  • Controls Design & Implementation: Lead the design and implementation of internal controls across various business units to support a strong internal control environment.
  • External Audit Liaison: Act as the primary liaison with external auditors. Lead the planning and execution of various external audits, including SOC 1, SOC 2, and PCI DSS.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate business processes and procedures to identify compliance risks and develop improvement plans. Complete ad-hoc assessments of control failures and lead the way in building processes and controls to strengthen the control environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Regularly review and update policies and processes to reflect the latest jurisdictional regulations and emerging compliance best practices. Investigate and respond to compliance risk issues and regulatory inquiries, including preparing required documentation and making recommendations to senior management.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product and engineering teams to embed automated controls into products and internal tools to meet compliance requirements. Work closely with senior management to develop and maintain a cultural focus on compliance throughout the organization.
  • Reporting & Communication: Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing control findings, risk exposures, and recommendations for management. Present these findings to relevant stakeholders and senior leadership.

Who we are looking for:

  • A proactive self-starter who wants to identify problems and lead the way in solving them.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in internal controls, audit, risk management, or other similar roles, preferably with knowledge within financial services.
  • A strong background in financial controls is considered an asset.
  • Proven experience leading and managing the execution of external audits and liaising with external auditors. Experience with SOC 1 and SOC 2 audits is an asset.
  • An ability to build relationships as well as establish trust and credibility with your colleagues through excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important.
  • Possess strong organizational and prioritizing skills.
  • Have advanced Microsoft Office or G Suite skills.
  • Working knowledge of IT and financial controls frameworks (e.g., COSO, COBIT, NIST, PCI DSS)
  • PCIP/ISA qualification is considered an asset.
  • CPA, CISA or CIA designations are considered an asset.
  • Prior experience with vendor compliance and vendor management is an asset.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with relevant legislation and regulation is an asset (i.e. FINTRAC, FCAC, PIPEDA, OSFI).
