The Opportunity
MZ is seeking a Director, Corporate Finance (“The Director”) as head of the company’s corporate finance function, who will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day forecasting, reporting, and treasury activities. Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Finance, the Director will play a key role advancing strategic initiatives for the department and business, while working closely with the Vice President, Corporate Finance, the accounting team, and other key internal/external stakeholders.
This is a dynamic, challenging, and visible role that will grow in scope and responsibility over time. The incumbent must posses a strong technical foundation (financial modelling, reporting, accounting, data analytics), and be results driven. The incumbent is comfortable problem solving independently and collaborating with other teams or departments in a finance capacity. The Manager, Corporate Finance will report to the Director.
The Role
· Lead the preparation and timely delivery of the monthly FP&A package, review month-end results, and present to the Senior Leadership Team.
· Work with the Vice President to advance strategic projects for the department and business.
· Participate in the Company’s treasury management and payment control functions.
· Manage the Company’s financial control frameworks, reviewing and operationalizing key controls.
· Identify opportunities to enhance existing policies, reporting, and compliance processes.
· Establish working relationships with key external stakeholders (lawyers, accountants, tax professionals).
· Provide expertise and guidance on complex accounting treatment issues.
· Oversee the annual external audit/compliance/tax processes, managing timing of key deliverables.
· Provide ad hoc analysis to support strategic decision making (commissions, corporate insurance, financial modelling, data analytics, due diligence, etc.)
· Participate in process optimization efforts with the Company’s accounting software (NetSuite).
· Lead, mentor, and coach the Manager of Corporate Finance.
What Are We Looking For?
· Minimum 7 years of progressive professional work experience in finance and accounting roles.
· Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, with large accounting firm experience.
· Analytical background in financial modelling, FP&A, decisions support, data analytics, or similar.
· Experience leading or managing direct reports and/or team members.
· Attention to detail, organized, and a strong communicator.
· A desire to pursue a challenging career in real estate finance.
· Will be required to obtain mortgage agent license with FSRA (paid for by MarshallZehr).
Preferred Requirements
· Experience with NetSuite accounting software is a plus.
· Experience (or having worked with clients in) in real estate or mortgage debt industries considered an asset.
Work Environment
· MZ offices are open Monday to Friday and employees are expected to work on site a minimum of 4 days per week, with the option of working remotely 1 day per week, as agreed to by the direct supervisor.
