Description
At Lufa Farms, we’re on a mission to create a better food system and a huge part of this is achieved by growing food where people live, and growing it responsibly. This led us to build the world’s first commercial rooftop greenhouse in 2011, followed by the world’s largest less than a decade later. With five urban farms (and counting!) producing year-round, we’re looking for a motivated individual to become our Greenhouse Maintenance Technician.
The Greenhouse Maintenance Technician will be responsible for conducting and improving maintenance operations at our rooftop greenhouses and indoor farm. This position requires not only solid hands-on experience, but also technical expertise in the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing fields, with a specialization in irrigation systems. In addition to managing scheduled maintenance tasks, the ideal candidate will be able to detect and resolve any mechanical anomalies and structural or architectural problems in order to meet the eventual maintenance needs of our production equipment.
Responsibilities
1. Ensures the necessary maintenance and repairs in our urban farms:
Performs regular daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections and maintenance;
Takes charge of the installation and repair of irrigation systems (plumbing/PVC), horticultural equipment (like electric carts), and electrical equipment (like greenhouse lights);
Performs basic carpentry, painting, and other general maintenance tasks to keep a clean and safe work environment;
Organizes and manages spare parts inventory, places orders, and ensures receipt of necessary materials;
Responds quickly to emergencies and investigates the causes of system alarms;
Works in a safe environment and wears the necessary protective equipment.
2. Proactively identifies and resolves potential problems to minimize unplanned downtime:
Analyzes facility and equipment problems and performs necessary repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance (including glass panels, fans, pumps, plumbing fixtures, and hydroponic systems).
3. Ensures proper record keeping and organization of maintenance schedules and notebooks:
Follows preventive maintenance procedures and shares recommendations;
Communicates regularly with their manager about deadlines.
Requirements
1. Owns a car and a valid driver's licence;
2. Experience in mechanics, equipment, and facility maintenance and repair:
Experience and ability to perform basic electrical and PVC plumbing repairs;
Experience in carpentry and painting;
Experience in materials handling and construction;
Advanced knowledge operating power tools and measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments.
3. Able to adjust to changing work conditions and available one week per month to take emergency calls at night;
4. Able to work independently, with minimal supervision, and exercise independent judgment in problem-solving situations;
5. Able to work with different internal teams.
Assets
3 to 5 years' experience in installation and repair, including 2 years as a facility maintenance mechanic, or equivalent background (academic or professional) in a commercial greenhouse or similar facility;
Proficiency in Google applications;
Experience in welding;
Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, schemas, and drawings;
Scissor lift (Skyjack) certification.
Schedule
Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday, 40 hours a week;
Must be available to take emergency calls at night, at least one week per month;
Must be reachable and available outside regular working hours for emergencies.

Salary is to be determined based on experience and knowledge of the candidate;
On-call night shifts week is compensated in the form of bonuses;
