Description
At Lufa Farms, we’re on a mission to build a better food system, and a huge part of this is achieved by growing food where people live and growing it responsibly. This led us to build the world’s first commercial greenhouse in 2011 and the world’s largest less than a decade later. With four urban farms (and counting!), we’re looking for someone who’s thrilled by the idea of improving the current food system to become our Greenhouse Director.
The Greenhouse Director is responsible for managing day-to-day production and operations of four different greenhouses (and those to come). They also routinely audit and refine current processes to make them as clean and efficient as possible. This role is perfect for lifelong learners who want to grow alongside our veggies.
Our ideal candidate dreams of changing the way cities eat one rooftop greenhouse at a time and is incredibly organized, caring, and hardworking. They apply first principles thinking and data-driven decision-making to everything they do, seek operational excellence and continuous improvement, and are capable of leading and motivating a team. We’re looking for candidates with prior production experience and management experience with a horticulture, engineering, or scientific background.
Responsibilities
Support, mentor, and motivate a team of around 100 people;
Optimize production at all greenhouses based on market demand;
Develop and report on KPIs for the department (cost, quality, yield, operational excellence, turnover, absenteeism, employee morale, safety, waste);

Oversee the development of new greenhouses and projects related to the department’s growth, efficiency improvements, and other capacity gains or cost reductions;

Communication liaison between the plant science and operations teams, ensuring constant collaboration between these sub-departments;
Responsible for maintaining a strong culture of inclusion and respect while ensuring operational excellence.
Requirements
At least eight years of experience in greenhouse operations, managing and working directly with the team;
Knowledge of health and safety systems;
Intensely curious and constantly seeking opportunities to learn new skills;
A highly independent leader that embodies an ownership mentality and requires minimal direction;
A team player that’s capable of working with multiple different departments;
Committed to commuting to all sites throughout the greater Montreal area;
Comfortable using Google Suite or other comparable software applications.
Assets
Stays up to date with the latest technological and scientific developments in relevant industries, etc.;
Bilingual in French and English.
Schedule
Full-time with time outside regular hours or on weekends expected.
