The Opportunity
The Director of Tax will be Ledn’s in-house tax expert. The incumbent will be responsible for managing Ledn’s overall corporate and indirect tax functions including tax planning and strategy, compliance and reporting. The role will strategize on tax interpretations with positions to be developed, developing and maintaining transfer pricing agreements and policies, along with international tax compliance and reporting obligations.
About the Role
- Develop and implement global tax strategies, identifying areas for tax efficiencies, and make recommendations that are compliant with tax laws and regulations.
- Partner with other teams to advise on tax aspects of new business initiatives.
- Identify and manage tax risks associated with the company’s operations and investments.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Manage the tax compliance and tax authority audits for legal entities.
- Drive global transfer pricing strategy and ensure compliance with international requirements, including documentation, inter-company agreements, and process to record accounting entries.
- Ensure all reporting obligations are satisfied accurately and in a timely manner.
- Oversee the preparation of tax provisions and disclosures in financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
- Oversee tax matters related to foreign operations including income tax compliance, indirect tax, and withholding tax matters.
- Monitor legislative changes in key international tax laws and regulations that may impact the company and provide proactive strategic guidance on the consequences of such changes.
- Be a point of contact for all inquiries/audits/examinations from global tax authorities, and manage relationships and expectations, as well as those of external auditors on any tax related matters.
- Manage relationships with external tax consultants and advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Assist in the budgeting/forecasting processes in the calculation of effective tax rates for each region.
- Manage and oversee required filings of tax slips to Ledn’s clients and/or data to tax authorities, and to ensure the correct set of data is being gathered and provided.
What You Bring to Ledn
- 10+ years of tax experience with working knowledge of international tax laws, including Canada, U.S, EU, and Cayman Islands tax laws.
- M&A due diligence and integration experience.
- Ability to identify and define problems, gather and review data, assess the alternatives, interpret the results, manage the risk, and communicate findings.
- Project management and implementation skills are required.
- Experience collaborating with external advisors on complex tax matters.
- Ability to partner with senior leaders and explain technical concepts to colleagues without a technical tax background.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present tax strategies and issues to senior management and external stakeholders.
- Technical background and experience to conduct tax related research and provide advice across existing and future growth jurisdictions.
- Bachelor's degree in Business/Accounting or equivalent.
- Professional accounting designation and MS/MBA/JD in tax preferred.
- Knowledge of Foreign Accrual Property Income (FAPI) would be beneficial.
