Job Purpose: The R&D Senior Staff Consultant will be responsible for the maintenance and further development of KBC’s reactor models for Petro-SIM and HXX-SIM products. The ideal candidate would have experience in hydroprocessing operations to apply this industry knowledge in the programming of new reactor modelling software in refining and petrochemical areas, with the ability to provide advanced consulting for modelling applications to external and internal clients. This combination of deep technical/theoretical knowledge in maths & chemical engineering, together with practical operational experience, will be a huge differentiator for a successful candidate.

Shortlist of Essential Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science or MS/PhD degree or equivalent in an Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science discipline.
  • Proven software development experience in a commercial or academic environment preferably in the oil industry.
  • Coding in programming languages relevant to the role. Key languages used are FORTRAN (SIM reactors and Mesa engine), C++ (Petro-SIM), C#. Java, Javascript and Typescript
  • Some experience with and knowledge of mathematical modelling techniques and associated numerical methods.
  • Experience working with refineries, refinery data and modelling or advanced process control of commercial Delayed Coker or other relevant reactors.
  • Knowledge of large engineering simulation and optimization packages such as Petro-SIM, VM-EMS or similar competitor’s products. Experience in developing such packages is a plus.
  • Goal driven with excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Completion of work within defined timelines
  • Development and maintenance of good relationships with clients as needed.
  • Advanced level of self-motivation and initiative
  • Proactive personal development, technology development, and professional attitude and project of professional company image
  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally for internal & client meetings (up to 20%)

Familiarity with following are a plus:

  • Experience with Angular framework and full stack web development increasingly key
  • Advanced computing knowledge (data science, AI/ML technology, cloud technology, database technology)
  • Numerical methods and optimization expertise
  • Agile software development methodology experience
