Your Role in Our Journey
We’re looking for a Senior Staff Developer to join Jane’s Clinical Group. This group of teams focuses on empowering practitioners to provide the best patient care by delivering delightful user experiences in areas like charting, intake forms, clinical surveys, AI-powered scribes and more. We’re also embarking on an exciting, multi-year journey to support a new type of Jane user: the 3rd-party developer. By creating extensibility opportunities within the charting domain, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Jane’s future.
As a resourceful & curious problem solver, you’ll embody a bias to action, distilling complexity to uncover and address the core of challenging problem. This role emphasizes asking the right questions over having all the answers, valuing thoughtful decision-making while moving swiftly and with confidence. You’ll be hands-on, leading by example and fostering a culture of technical excellence, strong reviews, and continuous improvement.

The experience we feel we need
- At least 12+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Impact: Proven track record of delivering impactful, customer-facing technical projects by steering architecture, and value milestones, while beings hands on in the code, debugging and maintenance.
- Problem Selection: Track record of using quantitative & qualitative data to steer prioritization & decision making.
- Coding: Proficient in at one or more of languages/frameworks such as Ruby/Rails, Python, Golang, or Java. Deep understanding of distributed computing principles, data architecture, and scalable system design.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience in technical leadership roles, with a proven track record of mentoring and empowering engineering teams.
- Systems Expertise: Extensive experience in building highly available, scalable services deployed across multiple geographic regions. Deep understanding of SLAs, system resiliency, and observability.
- API Development: Expertise in designing and implementing clean, modularized abstraction APIs and programmatic APIs, with consumers being other systems, or complex single page applications.
- Storage Systems: Expertise in a transactional system (e.g., Postgres, MySQL) and competence with other storage systems (e.g. Redis, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB).
- Cloud architecture: Advanced knowledge of at least one cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, Azure, containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and familiarity with Infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform or Helm).
- Communication: Proven ability to communicate complex topics across diverse audiences including non-technical executives to technical individuals.
Compensation Expectations for the Role
Jane’s committed to paying our team members fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $185,300 and maximum annual salary of $301,100. As you may have noticed, this salary range is quite large, and this is intentional to account for the growth someone will experience in the role throughout their time at Jane (i.e., from building the skills, to accomplished, to highly proficient, all the way to achieving excellence in the role). When hiring talented folks to join the Jane team, we’ve found that new team members are best set up for success when hired with the expectation of being fully accomplished in the role, which for this role would reflect a starting salary of $220,100. It's also possible to join Jane at a salary above or below this, which would mean a salary below $220,100 typically reflects someone who has all the potential to be fully accomplished in the role but doesn't yet possess all the skills required, while a salary above $220,100 is typically for individuals who are currently in this role at Jane and had the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on our customers, product and company with deep Jane knowledge.
