Who You Will Work With:

The vacant Platform Engineering, Senior Specialist role will report to the Leader, Infrastructure Engineering. The Platform Engineering, Senior Specialist will support the AMQ and File Transfer services including the platform layer that fronts API’s, enforces edge controls, moves messages and aggregates telemetry for real time operations. They will be doing hands-on work and will have exposure to multiple infrastructure domains including compute, networking, storage, backup, and database platforms. They will work with internal and third-party vendors/service providers, ensuring seamless integration, effective service delivery, and alignment with strategic objectives.

What You Will Do:

Messaging Platforms — Red Hat AMQ (Broker / Streams)

  • Deploy and operate Red Hat AMQ messaging platforms on OpenShift, using supported container images and Operators rather than standalone brokers.

  • Manage broker lifecycle (deployment, configuration changes, scaling, upgrades) through Custom Resources and Operators, ensuring continuity of service during changes.

  • Operate JMS‑compliant message brokers (AMQ Broker / ActiveMQ Artemis) as shared infrastructure services for upstream and downstream systems.

  • Support event‑driven and streaming workloads using AMQ Streams (Kafka‑based), including cluster, topic, and user management through Operators.

  • Troubleshoot connectivity, persistence, and failover concerns in containerized messaging environments, recognizing OpenShift‑specific HA patterns and limitations.

  • Coordinate capacity planning and monitoring of messaging throughput, storage, and broker health.

  • Support patching and configuration standards consistent with enterprise change management.

Secure File Transfer Platforms — File Transfer (FT) both on-prem and Managed

  • Operate File Transfer(FT) platforms as secure, centralized file‑exchange services rather than ad‑hoc FTP/SFTP servers. Experience in Go Anywhere MFT highly desired

  • Support protocol‑driven file exchanges (SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, AS2, etc.) that integrate internal systems, external partners, and batch workloads.

  • Ensure FT platforms meet enterprise security and compliance requirements, including encryption, authentication, audit trails, and non‑repudiation.

  • Operate FT solutions in on‑prem or hybrid configurations aligned with data locality and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage automation, scheduling, and monitoring of recurring file‑transfer workflows to meet SLA commitments.

  • Support incident response and forensic analysis using audit logs and transfer histories.

OpenShift Platform Build & Operations (On‑Prem)

  • Build, maintain, and operate a production OpenShift platform on‑prem, including cluster/node lifecycle, operators, and platform stability responsibilities.

  • Execute measured, low‑risk platform configuration changes in production (e.g., routing/ingress/TLS policy changes) with controlled rollouts.

  • Manage platform configuration changes and upgrades using operator‑driven, controlled rollouts aligned with change‑management practices.

  • Operate OpenShift Service Mesh (Istio‑based) to enable secure, observable service‑to‑service communication.

  • Manage mesh control plane lifecycle via Operators and CRDs.

  • Support traffic management (routing, canary releases, rate limiting), zero‑trust security (mTLS, workload identity), and observability (metrics, logs, tracing).

  • Understand and operate sidecar and ambient (sidecar‑less) modes as appropriate to platform requirements.

  • Understanding of cloud (AWS in particular) and SaaS platform services such as SES and IDAM/CIAM.

  • OS & Host Foundations Supporting Container Platforms

  • Senior capability administering RHEL (Windows Server, nice to have) underlying supporting components and adjacent services (patching, stability, software currency).

  • Support minor/major upgrades, extensions to databases: CockroachDB , EDB Postgres/PostgreSQL

  • Facilitate patching activities and forward/rollback testing in lower environments to reduce production risk.

Observability, Alerts, and Operational Signal Quality

  • Maintain platform dashboards and alerts, including tuning thresholds to minimize false positives while maintaining detection fidelity.

  • Perform ongoing monitoring and capacity management for infrastructure and software platforms supporting OpenShift service levels.

  • Reliability, Incident Response & Change Management (Senior Ops Competence)

  • Partner on incident bridges to quickly differentiate platform vs application faults and restore service.

  • Meet high availability expectations aligned to defined SLA/SLO for critical systems.

  • Working knowledge of ITIL-aligned change management: maintenance window planning and rollback engineering.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/IT and/or 8+ years of equivalent IT working experience.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • 5+ years in platform engineering/SRE/DevOps/DBA roles with strong hands-on experience on hands‑on experience deploying, operating, and supporting Red Hat AMQ messaging platforms (AMQ Broker / ActiveMQ Artemis and AMQ Streams) on OpenShift, using supported Operators and container images, Red Hat OpenShift/Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD tools and automation scripting.

  • 5+ years experience operating enterprise Secure File Transfer (FT) platforms as centralized, governed services, replacing ad‑hoc FTP/SFTP implementations. They have supported protocol‑driven file exchanges (including SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, AS2) integrating internal systems, external partners, and batch‑oriented workloads across on‑prem and hybrid environments. Experience with GoAnywhere MFT is strongly preferred.

  • Automation-first mindset: Ansible, Bash, and Python; GitOps workflows; IaC familiarity (Terraform helpful).

  • Change management (ITIL), maintenance window planning, and rollback engineering.

  • Experience with observability (Solarwinds, Dynatrace), log platforms, and alerting.

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
