The Senior Android Developer—reporting to the Leader, Development will be responsible for prototyping, architecting, detailed design, coding, code review, and unit testing mobile and web applications. You will create and maintain relevant technical documentation. You are an expert in technologies related to Android, and Web-based front-end application frameworks, design patterns, SDLC methodologies, and experience working in an Agile software development environment.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality Android applications for payments platform.

  • Independently managing and executing development assignments from start to finish.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other developers, to define, design, and ship new features.

  • Ensuring the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.

  • Identifying and correcting bottlenecks and fix bugs.

  • Helping maintain code quality, organization, and automation.

  • Staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure our app remains competitive.

  • Actively participating in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

You bring:

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience as an Android Developer with a strong portfolio of released applications on the Google Play Store.

  • Proficient in Android Studio or Kotlin and Java.

  • Experience with Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes.

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.

  • Strong knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.

  • Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning.

  • Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks.

  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.

  • Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications.

  • Understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Hands-on experience working in Agile environments.

  • Experience with secure communication, encryption practices, and integration with Android KeyStore/EncryptedSharedPreferences for secure token and sensitive data storage.

  • Strong understanding and practical experience with MVVM architecture, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Flow.

  • Experience with DI frameworks to improve code maintainability and testability.

  • Proficiency in writing unit tests (JUnit, Mockito) and automated UI tests as well as configuring CI/CD pipelines.

  • Proven experience implementing accessibility features, including dynamic font scaling and ensuring compatibility with TalkBack.

  • Experience with push notifications and familiarity with integrating BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and QR scanning.

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with payment processing and financial services applications.

  • Knowledge of security and encryption practices in mobile development.

  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
