We are seeking an experienced AWS Database Administrator (DBA) to design, implement, manage, and optimize database solutions on the AWS cloud platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management systems (RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, etc.), a focus on performance, scalability, and security, and hands-on experience in supporting mission-critical applications.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Designing, deploying, and maintaining database solutions using AWS database services such as RDS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server), DynamoDB, Aurora, and Redshift).

  • Optimizing database performance through query tuning, indexing, and schema design for high-volume, high-transaction systems.

  • Implementing and managing database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions using AWS services like Backup and CloudFormation.

  • Monitoring and maintaining database availability, health, and performance using tools such as CloudWatch, Performance Insights, and third-party monitoring solutions.

  • Automating database provisioning, maintenance, and scaling using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools and ensure consistency across environments.

  • Developing reusable automation scripts and templates to standardize operational processes, reduce manual intervention, and accelerate delivery.

  • Ensuring database security by implementing IAM policies, encryption (KMS), and auditing for compliance with industry standards.

  • Collaborating with development and DevOps teams to integrate database services into CI/CD pipelines and application architectures.

  • Contributing to inner-source practices by creating and maintaining a centralized repository of database management scripts, configurations, and automation frameworks accessible across teams.

  • Enabling AppOps teams by building reusable database monitoring, alerting, and self-healing modules to ensure operational support scalability.

  • Troubleshooting database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, connection pooling, and query optimizations.

  • Staying updated with AWS database offerings, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously improve solutions.

You bring:

  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with at least 3 years working with AWS database services.

  • Expertise in relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server, and NoSQL databases like DynamoDB.

  • Hands-on experience in database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and

  • optimization in cloud environments.

  • Strong knowledge of AWS services like RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, S3, IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, and Lambda.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for database automation and maintenance.

  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS

  • CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.

  • Familiarity with database security, encryption, and auditing best practices in a cloud environment.

  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and integrating databases into automated workflows.

  • Experience with inner-source collaboration tools like GitHub or GitLab to contribute to shared repositories and enable cross-team usage of database automation scripts.

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with a collaborative approach.

  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.

Nice to have:

  • AWS Certifications: AWS Certified Database Specialty, AWS Solutions Architect, or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.

  • Experience with data warehousing and analytics platforms.

  • Knowledge of ETL processes and tools.

  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools.

  • ITIL or other relevant certifications in database management and operations.
