IT Operations Intern

At Interac, we design and deliver products and solutions that give Canadians control over their money so they can get more out of life. But that’s not all. Whether we’re leading real-time money movement, driving innovative commerce solutions like open payments for transit systems, or making advancements in new areas like verification and open banking, we are playing a key role in shaping the future of the digital economy in Canada.

Want to make a lasting impact amongst a community of creative thinkers, problem solvers, technical gurus and high-performance application developers? We want to hear from you.

Reporting to the IT Operations Leader, the IT Operations Intern will produce dashboards and other reports that translate opaque statistics into meaningful, actionable insights that our technology, operations, client, and management teams can use to better serve our stakeholders. You will help improve all of those services by analyzing what sometimes goes wrong and identifying areas we can improve.

You will also be engaged with the IT ops team in other duties that positively impact Interac's delivery of critical Canada-wide payments and digital verification services. This is a unique opportunity to work with the teams that operate Interac services and support Interac's customers - Canada's banks, credit unions, and payments companies, and every Canadian that uses our products like Debit and E-transfer.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Incident Management team and others to reduce manual efforts in monthly reporting

  • Using Tableau and other tools to visually represent operational data, making it easier to see the "story" it tells

  • Assisting with routine maintenance tasks, including system updates, patches, and backups, to ensure the health and security of IT infrastructure

  • Analyzing data to uncover hidden drivers of incidents and provide recommendations to improve accuracy and relevance/impact of reporting

  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including system configurations, process workflows, and support procedures

  • Implementing and monitoring security measures to protect IT systems and data, including following best practices for access control and data protection.

  • Identifying and proposing improvements for IT processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

  • Supporting IT Operations team on a day-to-day basis

You bring:

  • You are currently completing an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with a focus on Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users – you’re customer focused

  • Passion for learning about delivering and improving B2B and B2C customer experience and payment products & services

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues - you're comfortable with ambiguity and highly collaborative by nature

  • A curiosity to learn new technologies – you consider yourself highly adaptable, able to adapt to changing environments, and take on new challenges

  • Ability to focus on customer/stakeholder needs, with experience in providing support, improving experiences, and effectively managing relationships

  • Knowledge in analyzing data and translating complex information into clear, actionable messages for various audiences – experience with operations data, and utilizing data to improve customer experience is an asset

  • Examples of previous work where data was analyzed and communicated, such as project reports, data dashboards, or presentations showcasing data insights

  • Although not required, you have some familiarity or previous experience with the following:

    • Tableau

    • Power BI

    • Lucidcharts

    • Advanced Excel functions (Macros, PowerQuery, VLookUp, XLookUp)
