Articling Student 2025-2026 (10-month contract)

As an articling student at Interac Corp., you will have an opportunity to receive exceptional legal training and exposure to all areas of law related to the competitive financial services and FinTech environment, including but not limited to: corporate commercial, innovation, technology, marketing and advertising, regulatory, governance and litigation.

Under supervision, you will work collaboratively with a close-knit team of sharp, solution-oriented in-house lawyers on special projects and the day-to-day operations at Interac Corp.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Providing level-one legal services with respect to the following:

  • Drafting and negotiating a variety of legal agreements, such as non-disclosure agreements, consulting services agreements, proof of concepts, independent contractor agreements, incentive agreements and letter agreements;

  • Providing contract interpretations to business units;

  • Preparing summaries, digests and inventories of documents; and

  • Conducting legal research on topics such as data handling, interpretation of legislation impacting the business, and other matters.

  • Supporting more senior legal personnel with respect to the following:

  • Negotiating partner, client, supplier, vendor and other agreements;

  • Providing substantive legal advice for the ongoing delivery of existing services;

  • Providing legal support on proposed new products and services and other cross-functional initiatives;

  • Assessing strategic initiatives for related business units; and

  • Monitoring and auditing of processes to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations.

You bring:

  • A law degree from an accredited institution

  • A keen interest in the products, services and interdependencies at Interac and in the payments eco-system

  • The ability to independently problem-solve and work collaboratively in a team environment

  • A willingness to learn and have a positive perception of constructive feedback

  • Interest and excitement in learning about multiple complex areas

  • Willingness to take on a variety of responsibilities and roles that support the team, department and organization

  • Proactivity with time management and project prioritization, and a good communicator in these areas

  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to provide cogent analysis of legal and business issues

  • The ability to identify, assess and quantify legal and reputational risk

  • Regulatory, financial, payments, technology or intellectual property experience is a bonus, but not necessary
