You’ll be responsible for the implementation and technical support of the company's production databases and associated technologies. You’ll perform tasks associated with database modelling, performance tuning, capacity planning, and operational activities. You’ll work with the DevOps, Enabling Tech and Operations team to ensure optimal service availability and application performance.

You’ll need profound knowledge of relational database management systems in general and Oracle DB in particular performance tuning and administration practice.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Participating in and influencing the design, planning, and implementations regarding database system performance and administration.

  • Must be eligible to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a Full Time Capacity

  • Participating with development teams to design, build and manage the data model.

  • Recommend and assist in providing a structured PL/SQL standard for performance, support and maintenance of the data model.

  • Providing strategies and solutions for automated management and monitoring of the database and transaction processing environments.

  • Providing solutions to meet data security and compliance requirements.

  • Analyzing Oracle AWR/ADDM/ASH reports (proactive troubleshooting) daily.

  • Reviewing SQL execution plans on critical application queries and building SQL profiles if needed.

  • Communicating and managing critical support issues identified to Product Vendors.

  • Defining and executing data purge/archive policy. ×

  • Suggesting schedule/timings of database automatic jobs to avoid conflict with application processes.

  • × Working closely with the application development team to support development and ongoing automation.

  • Supporting the data operations group for problem analysis and resolution.

  • 24/7 On call Database support based on a rotation schedule required.

You bring:

  • University Degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5-7 years’ experience in a similar role.

  • Good understanding of SQL database modelling and Normal Forms.

  • Experience with performance tuning of Oracle databases, highly available payment and transactional systems, data replication, and database clusters.

  • Experience with data warehousing, operational data stores and large-scale implementations.

  • Software development experience (Java with Spring framework, AngularJS)

  • You have 3-4+ years developing and supporting PostgreSQL databases, advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL internals including hands-on experience with Ansible to optimize and automate tasks

  • Expert knowledge of SQL tuning and database performance optimization.

  • Experience driving database design working closely with Application development teams.

  • Experience with reviewing, testing, implementing and executing database changes as submitted by the development team.

  • Strong knowledge of different types of Oracle database objects including indexes, partitioning, materialized views, keys etc.

  • Solid knowledge of Oracle replication/Oracle RAC/Oracle Golden Gate implementations.

  • Solid knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, Unix/Linux and Shell scripting.

  • Solid experience with OCI- ATP, Oracle Exadata, AWS RDS, RedShift.

  • Experience working in an Agile environment collaborating with Dev, QA, Testing, Operations teams.

  • Self-motivated and able to learn quickly.

  • Well versed in analyzing data, identifying and proactively mitigating risk to production systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and are able to communicate with business and technical stakeholders.

  • Strong team player and are able to seamlessly interact with others in a team environment.
