SOC Operator (12 Month Contract)

Reporting to the Team Lead, SOC the SOC Operator will support the implementation of workstreams that assess the current state of the organization, drive continuous improvement and increase organizational effectiveness. They will use analytical thought to contribute to enterprise strategic initiatives.

This role is for a 12 month contract.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Monitoring network and information systems, and responding to security alerts and notifications of potentially malicious activity;

• Identifying, reporting, and investigating / escalating potential security incidents;

• Conducting initial triage including performing an impact assessment of detected events;

• Escalating events for further investigation by SOC Analysts;

• Perform tuning of SIEM filters and events correlation to ensure continuous monitoring improvements

• Contributing to the development and maintenance of effective and efficient SOC standard operating procedures;

• Maintain awareness of evolving threats, trends, and technologies; and perform knowledge sharing with other members of the team

• Assisting in information security risk assessment activities

• Assisting in security investigations, training and awareness exercises

• Other related tasks as required

You bring:

• Graduation with a degree from a post-secondary educational program with specialization in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security Program; or a related discipline; OR

• Minimum of one (1) year of practical experience within the last five years, directly related to the functions of this role; and.

• NS GIAC GSOC, Network+, Security+ or other cyber security certification.

• Government of Canada Secret (Level II) or eligible to obtain one

• Must be eligible to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a Full Time Capacity

Skills & Requirements:

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

• Ability to work autonomously with attention to detail

• Ability to communicate effectively and write concisely and clearly

• Knowledge of ITIL is an asset

• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

• Awareness of the following areas: security information and event management (SIEM) platforms, intrusion detection system technology, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing tools, exploits, and techniques

• Knowledge of security and network devices, both physical and virtual technologies e.g. IDS, Firewalls, VPN, etc.

• Understanding of networking protocols and TCP/IP

• Knowledge of information systems hardening i.e. operating systems, network devices, and application security

• Knowledge of incident response methodologies e.g. NIST, SANS

• SANS GIAC GSOC, Network+, Security+, or other security certification would be an asset

• Willing and able to work 24x7 shift rotation
