As a Platform Observability Senior Specialist, you will play a key role in monitoring and ensuring the current state of Interac’s Application, Infrastructure, and Services are robust, visible, and available to stakeholders for troubleshooting, performance analysis, capacity planning and reporting. You will lead the implementation and administration of enterprise solutions to enable our support teams, developers, and system administrators to efficiently detect and remediate incidents as they arise and proactively address issues before they become incidents. This role will ensure the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of Interac systems while championing best practices for Observability.

Reporting to the Director of Platform Operations, you will ensure issues are urgently addressed and leverage your knowledge in observability to mitigate risk to production environments.


You're great at...

  • Providing thought leadership and strategy in implementing and maintaining AppDynamics

  • AppDynamics Infrastructure and Configurations to improve application performance in production.

  • Anticipating business and regulatory issues; recommending product, process, or service improvements.

  • Modelling data to allow for data normalization across a variety of unique data sources.

  • Building advanced visualizations in AppDynamics that enhance our ability to identify and respond to issues.

  • Writing AppDynamics queries for alerts, dashboards, and reporting.

  • Onboarding new data sources in AppDynamics

  • Optimizing Observability Suite to monitor applications and infrastructure.

  • Tracking new releases of monitoring solutions and deploying patches/implementing upgrades, and backup regularly.

  • Understanding application flows in a containerized/microservice environment.

  • Liaising with support staff from our key vendors for troubleshooting, coordinating maintenance windows, etc.

  • Managing AppDynamics Controller & Agents (AppServer-Agents, DB-Agents, Machine-Agents, Network-Agents, Analytics-Agents, etc.)

  • Creating and maintaining operational process documentation for monitoring solutions.

  • Create AppD knowledge-base repository/confluence along with the documented process, template

  • Supporting weekly Operations governance with multiple vendors ensuring line of sight for escalation of critical issues.

  • Facilitating input/communications from/to stakeholder groups and mitigating risk to production environments.

  • Coordinating major changes impacting production services with internal/external teams.

  • Providing operational and BAU support for all services and products as/when required including on-call.

  • Involve with AppD (vendor) community and inform AppD users of any new features/improvements.

Who are you?

  • University Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or similar, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Must be eligible to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a Full Time Capacity.

  • 3-5 years of work experience as AppD SME, completed certification as an AppD SysAdmin/Implementation Professional

  • Experience writing alerts, reports, and dashboard queries in AppDynamics or similar.

  • Proficient in working with Linux/Unix as SysAdmin and knowledgeable in one or more scripting languages.

  • Strong background in application monitoring for Java applications & microservices architectures.

  • Experience with log and metrics collection and analysis.

  • Experience in service decomposition in setting target KPIs.

  • Good understanding of ITIL service management processes.

  • You are organized, manage multiple priorities, and can simultaneously deal with information from different sources while following through on projects to completion.

  • Experience with alert and notification management in Pager Duty, Splunk, or similar.

  • Skilled in IT problem diagnosis and resolution.

  • Experience coaching and mentoring more junior engineers.

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively and professionally.

  • You love to learn and are willing to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems with efficient and logical solutions.
