Data Science Intern

The Data Science Intern will be responsible for providing actionable insights into rule-based fraud detection, feature development, and statistical analysis of new and existing fraud trends.

The Data Scientist will work under general guidance of Data Specialists or Managers to identify, design, develop and support data solution for business. The Data Scientist will also work with the fraud teams to provide deliverables including research insights, data assets, and visualizations to help the end-user develop a better understanding of the topic.

This position will offer a great opportunity for a student to:

• Manipulate large sets of data,

• Create data reports

• Test and build different ML models

• Develop various analytic tools to support business process

Who are you?

• Study in related fields including statistics, math, computer science, business analytics

• Have a track of academic excellence

• Proficient in technical skills including SQL, Python, and have knowledge in reporting and data visualization

• Completed at least 1 work term (preferably 3rd work term) as data scientist / data analyst / business analyst

Must have skills:

• Ability to manipulate big data and code using SQL and Python

• Knowledge of data mining, databases, SQL and Machine learning

• Strong data storytelling with analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrate a track of academic excellence with strong ability to learn

• Willing to take initiatives to conduct independent research and analysis and drive results

Nice to have skills:

• Understanding in banking/payments industry is a plus

• Strong attention to details

• Focus and dedication to improve analysis process and ensure data accuracy

• Experience working with implementing concepts, such as predictive modeling, profiling, segmentation forecasting, operations research and data mining

• Experience with the following technologies/databases: Python, Oracle, Redshift, BI tools (Tableau), Spark (PySpark)
