Location: Remote within Canada only
Why this role is important:
Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Financial Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the finance team and broader organization by providing in-depth financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic insights. This role will be responsible for evaluating financial data, identifying trends, and assisting in the development of financial strategies to drive business growth and optimize financial performance.
The impact you'll have:
- Financial Analysis: Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and key drivers of financial performance. Develop models to project future financial outcomes.
- Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports for senior management and stakeholders along with other ad-hoc reporting.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Closely assist in the budgeting process, including the development, modification, and maintenance of financial forecasts and long-term financial plans. Monitor and analyze budget performance and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Variance Analysis: Analyze and report on variances between actual results and budgeted/forecasted figures. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.
- Strategic Planning: Support strategic planning initiatives by analyzing financial data, assessing potential business opportunities, and evaluating financial implications of proposed strategies.
- Financial Modeling: Develop and maintain financial models to support business decisions, including valuation models, profitability analysis, and scenario planning.
- Variable Compensation Calculation: Assist in the development and calculation of monthly, quarterly, and annual variable compensation plans such as commissions and bonuses.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy in reporting and analysis.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to gather relevant data, understand business needs, and provide financial insights that support operational and strategic goals.
- Compliance and Controls: Ensure financial activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal controls. Assist in the preparation for audits and provide necessary documentation.
The keys to success:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. A professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) is an asset.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in financial analysis, financial reporting, or public accounting, with a proven track record in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling/analysis. Experience in a senior finance role is an asset.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., Excel, financial modeling software, ERP systems). Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make data-driven decisions.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
- Team Player: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
