Join our dynamic team at Hydrostor in the exciting field of long-duration energy storage. We are seeking an Environmental Planning / Approvals Manager to join our Development Management team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the end to end delivery of projects from site identification through to financial close, with a focus on environmental assessment and approvals, across a variety of utility-scale energy storage projects in the development phase.
Day-to-Day Adventures:
- Site Selection: Collaborate with internal teams to apply fundamental site selection criteria, identifying prospective project sites based on land ownership, resource potential, revenue opportunities, and more.
- Landowner Engagement: Engage with landowners to gauge their interest in project participation, secure land tenure and maintain strong working relationship with landowner through project lifecycle.
- Stakeholder Management: Be the face of Hydrostor in community settings and in front of individual landowners and large landowner groups. Manage relationships with key stakeholder groups including council, First Nations, neighbours and the broader community.
- Environmental Expertise: Collaborate with teams to manage and conduct environmental due diligence and permitting processes.
- Grid Connection Process: Manage grid consultant to progress projects through the grid connection process to secure an Offer to Connect / Connection Agreement.
- Constructability Insight: Collaborate with internal and external engineering and construction teams to conduct constructability due diligence.
- Project Management: Formulate project budgets, schedules, risk assessments, and ensure project remains on schedule and budget.
- Market Understanding: Maintain a fundamental understanding of regulatory and market dynamics across the National Electricity Market.
- Safety & Compliance: Prioritize safety and security, reporting unsafe conditions and adhering to proper procedures.
- Safety Advocate: Lead by example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude, actively supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Your Mission:
Join our dynamic team as Risk and Regulatory Compliance Manager / Director and play a crucial role developing, implementing and embedding the risk management framework, throughout the project life cycle, from pre-construction to operations.
The successful candidate will need to incorporate a risk-based approach to compliance and ensure all regulatory and contractual requirements / obligations are met. Your expertise will be instrumental in mitigating project risks and maintaining regulatory adherence as we deliver one of the most impactful energy infrastructure projects in the region.
Candidate/Employee Overview:
We are seeking an individual who is passionate about the clean energy transition and possesses the drive to excel in project development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science and have practical experience progressing renewable projects through the planning and approvals process.
In addition, exposure to project management, managing project budget and schedule, land acquisition, grid connection, stakeholder engagement will be viewed favourably. Collaboration, attention to detail, a thirst for learning, and a commitment to excellence and passion are your standout qualities.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, planning or engineering
- 5+ years of related experience with exposure to multiple aspects of project development including permitting, land acquisition, grid connection, design, etc.
- Strong knowledge of planning, environmental, heritage, and risks associated with renewable developments.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal planning rules.
- General understanding of project management, prioritizing multiple tasks against a typical schedule.
- Knowledge of real property and surface ownership determinations, lease/easement/crossing/mineral negotiations.
- Familiarity with grid connection processes and grid operations.
- General knowledge of electricity markets, market structures, and energy companies.
- Basic financial modelling understanding and its impact on project economics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of technical aspects of energy storage projects.
- Proficiency in GIS, state planning portals, MS Office and Outlook.
- Key competencies include collaboration, attention to detail, adaptability, excellence, and passion.
- Ability to travel domestically (40%).
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
