We’re enabling the energy transition to a cleaner, more reliable electricity grid, and invite you to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking journey.

Why Hydrostor?

Our cutting-edge A-CAES technology is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the energy landscape. Join us as we lead the way in shaping a greener, more sustainable future.

Your Mission

As the Director of Commercial Contracts at Hydrostor, you will play a pivotal role in the commercial and business development team by participating in the negotiation and management of revenue agreements (e.g. PPAs), real estate agreements, and partnership agreements. You will also be supporting the commercial and business development team with market strategy, economic analysis, and responding to key procurements.

Your primary responsibilities will include reviewing and negotiating revenue agreements alongside the Origination team and establishing guidelines for various contract types, including real estate purchase and lease agreements, development partnerships, capital investments, and indigenous partnership agreements. You will coordinate with internal teams to ensure adherence to contractual standards and processes, support negotiation teams, incorporate key technical parameters into contractual documents, and drive accountability across our origination and business development groups.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures

  • Negotiations: Act as a key resource for internal negotiation teams (origination and business development), offering guidance on contractual terms, potential risks, and adherence to guidelines. Ensure consistency in contract interpretation and application to uphold Hydrostor’s interests.
  • Contract Review and Coordination: Manage the review process for a range of agreements and lead coordination efforts with internal and external counsel on drafting and reviewing agreements, from real estate to partnership agreements. Guide the creation of revenue-generating agreements and establish guidelines that streamline the contracting process.
  • Global Contracting Standards and Contract Management: Oversee the communication and maintenance of Hydrostor’s global contracting standards, ensuring consistent accountability across teams involved in contract origination and execution. Develop and implement processes to track compliance, milestones, and contractual obligations post-execution, supporting stakeholders in understanding and fulfilling their responsibilities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create scalable procedures and best practices for contract management, including document management, renewal tracking, and milestone notifications, to adapt to the dynamic nature of evolving assets and projects.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with legal, compliance, business development, technology, and other departments to support contract origination, execution, and management, fostering a collaborative environment to streamline communication and achieve successful outcomes.
  • Market Development and Commercial Support: Support business development by assisting with stakeholder relationships, conducting financial analyses, and contributing to market entry strategies. Perform due diligence, prepare presentations for key stakeholders, and provide research on power markets, macroeconomic trends, and revenue opportunities to drive project success and business growth.

Who You Are

You are a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational and communication skills, adept at driving accountability and ensuring adherence to contracting guidelines. You have the ability to lead negotiations and comprehend and analyze complex risks and communicate them clearly to the executive team. You thrive in fast-paced environments and have a proactive approach to managing complex and varied agreements. With a collaborative mindset, you effectively support teams in negotiations and guide them on contractual standards. You have a knack for developing processes and can manage evolving contractual landscapes with strategic oversight and process improvement.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, legal studies, finance, or a related field. An advanced degree or certification in a relevant area would be considered an asset.
  • 9+ years of experience in contract management, with a focus on power purchase agreements, partnership agreements, or structured contracting, preferably within the energy or related industries
  • Proven experience in contract review, revenue agreement structuring, and procedural development to support a high volume of contractual agreements
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong ability to analyze contractual terms, assess risks, and support teams in upholding contractual standards
  • Ability to create and implement scalable processes for contract management, with experience in managing assets and projects in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated capability in supporting origination and business development teams, providing guidance and accountability within the negotiation process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and guide teams in understanding and applying contractual obligations
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams, such as legal, compliance, and business development, to drive successful contract management outcomes
