Your Mission

The Director of Engineering Operations will play a key leadership role in overseeing engineering processes, optimizing performance, and supporting growth at an early-stage technology company. Reporting directly to the CTO, this position is responsible for ensuring engineering teams are aligned with company objectives and projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. The Head of Engineering Operations will also manage process improvements, team growth, and cross-functional collaboration to scale the company’s engineering capabilities.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures

Strategic Leadership & Execution:

  • Collaborate with the CTO to develop and implement engineering strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Oversee the scaling of engineering operations, including team structure, resource management, and workflow optimization.
  • Implement and refine processes to drive operational efficiency, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure consistent project delivery.

Project & Program Management:

  • Lead the engineering team in executing technology projects, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to project scope.
  • Implement agile methodologies and track project milestones while regularly reporting progress to senior leadership.
  • Manage the engineering budget and resource allocation, ensuring optimal use of staff and tools.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering, product, and other business units to ensure seamless execution and alignment.
  • Work with project managers and department leads to ensure cross-functional projects are completed successfully.

Process & Quality Improvement:

  • Standardize engineering processes, including development cycles and code quality management, to enhance productivity.
  • Monitor and report on key operational metrics such as project timelines, resource use, and team performance.

Talent Management & Team Development:

  • Recruit, hire, and mentor top engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement training and professional development programs to grow the technical and leadership skills of the team.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Identify and mitigate operational risks while ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Drive accountability for delivering high-quality technical deliverables aligned with company standards and customer requirements.

Change Management:

  • Lead change management initiatives to support company growth, ensuring smooth transitions when introducing new systems, tools, and processes.

Who You Are:

The ideal candidate for this role is an accomplished organizational leader with a strong focus on operational excellence, team building, and project management. They are skilled in leading cross-functional teams and have a proven track record of scaling engineering organizations during periods of growth. This individual thrives in dynamic environments, excels at managing change, and can influence and inspire others. They are detail-oriented, highly organized, and adept at follow-up, ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks. Most importantly, they can drive engineering.

What You Bring

  • 15+ years of engineering leadership experience, focusing on team management, operational efficiency, and organizational growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience managing and scaling engineering teams in a growing company.
  • Strong background in project and program management, with demonstrated success in driving large-scale engineering projects from concept to completion.
  • Expertise in process optimization, resource management, and cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Exceptional follow-up skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to ensure accountability across teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and building relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to navigate and manage complex cross-functional initiatives, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • PMP or similar project management certification is an asset but not required.
