Your Mission:

As a Project Mechanical Engineer supporting the development and construction of power generation facilities for Hydrostor, you will play a crucial role in advancing our organization's power generation solutions. This position carries the responsibility of acting as a product owner and providing rotating and static mechanical expertise to ensure the successful implementation of power generation projects. Your work will be instrumental in shaping the future of sustainable power generation.

This position will require you to travel up to 50% of the time, depending on project phase, between Melbourne and project locations. Typical travel will be less than 50%.

Your Day-to-Day Adventures

Design and Documentation

  • Determine the discipline scope of work and lead the development of mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications for power generation and process systems in alignment with project requirements.
  • Document all aspects of product design and development, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and Hydrostor directives.
  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to delivery to commissioning and handover to Operations.

Systems Integration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project teams, sourcing teams, procurement, construction, commissioning and operations and maintenance to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems within the facility.
  • Oversee the coordination and integration of various system components to achieve optimal performance, including troubleshooting during commissioning.

Systems Thinking

  • Apply systems thinking principles to analyze the interrelationships between system elements and the overall performance of the facility.
  • Lead discussions and dialogues to better understand, define, and manage complex systems effectively.

Product Management

  • Take ownership of the product design process, ensuring that all design components and concepts are effectively incorporated into Hydrostor's documentation.
  • Hand off comprehensive design documentation to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams for implementation, and provide ongoing oversight on those activities thereafter

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Engage across different disciplines to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing, ensuring the successful execution of power generation projects.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and liaison between various teams involved in the project.

Who You Are:

The successful candidate for this role will be a systems thinker with a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles and a proven track record in industrial project or in power generation facilities. They will thrive in a collaborative environment, excel in documentation and product management, and possess the ability to bridge the gap between design concepts and real-world implementation.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 5-years experience
  • Proficiency in mechanical system design, development, testing and integration.
  • Proficiency in design and installation techniques and in coordinating EPC contractors.
  • Proficiency in plant layout requirements of components and equipment.
  • Strong systems thinking skills and the ability to analyze complex interrelationships within power generation systems.
  • Proficiency in design and documentation tools and software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work within a project management system to advance ideas and designs through structured review and documentation steps.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in project management or leadership roles.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and industry standards, including ASME B31.1 and B31.3 would be an asset.
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering with a specialization in power generation facilities (turbines and compressors) would be an asset, as well as competencies in static processing equipment
  • Experience in an EPC environment would be an asset.
