Your Mission:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Project Manager with experience in underground cavern, tunnel or mine development and major civil works to join our dynamic owner’s team. The position will support the Silver City Project in Broken Hill as part of the Owner’s / Client Team working with the construction team to provide senior leadership in the lead up to execution and on site. As a key member of the senior management presence on site, the Project Manager will oversee the development and execution of the underground cavern, shafts and major civil works on the surface that are crucial to the success of the project.

This role will work collaboratively with the wider Hydrostor team members and our construction partner on the Silver City Project as it moves through late-stage development to financial close and on to construction completion.

The ideal candidate for the Project Manager role at Hydrostor will be a seasoned professional with a robust background in underground cavern, mine and/or tunnel development and major civil engineering projects. They will demonstrate proven leadership and management skills, capable of fostering a culture of teamwork, inclusiveness and collaboration. This role is initially based in our Sydney Offices with frequent travel to site in Broken Hill, NSW, travel maybe required on weekends to meet project needs and schedules. Once in the execution phase, the role will transition to a Fly-In / Fly-out (FIFO) role to and from Broken Hill or live-in (if suitable).

Your Day-to-Day Adventures:

Project Leadership

  • Take full delivery responsibility to successfully deliver the underground cavern, shafts and major civil works ensuring adherence to project timelines, budget and quality standards.
  • Support the Owner’s project leadership on site, providing strategic insights and on-the-ground management to facilitate seamless construction delivery with the construction partners.

Late-stage development

  • Work collaboratively with the wider Hydrostor team members and construction partner to review the constructability of the project and suggest opportunities to improve costs, efficiencies, productivity and scheduling.
  • Be part of the design review process to contribute your experience and knowledge to developing best for project solutions and designs.
  • Develop construction readiness plans internally and with the construction partner to ensure construction execution is a success.

Construction Execution

  • Take full responsibility for the execution of the project management plan to successfully deliver the underground cavern, shafts and major civil works ensuring adherence to project timelines, budget and quality standards and achieve successful delivery, commissioning and operational readiness
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure all work meets the project specifications, quality specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Track and report on project progress, identifying any deviations from the plan and implementing correction actions as necessary with the construction partner.

Project Controls

  • Work with the project controls team to develop and implement all document, quality, design management, schedule, cost control and other project controls

Stakeholder Management

  • Working with the Project Stakeholder & Permitting Manager to develop and maintain effectively communication with internal stakeholders, external contractors, and regulatory bodies to facilitate project progress and resolve any issues that arise.

Team Management

  • Provide leadership and guidance to project teams, including engineers, contractors and support staff, to ensure compliance with project objectives and Hydrostor’s standards.
  • Ensure adequate and appropriate owner team representation is present during development and construction activities in the project office and on-site.

Who You Are:

You are a highly skilled and experienced project manager specializing in underground cavern development and major civil engineering projects. Your background demonstrates a strong track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget. You possess exceptional leadership and communication skills, which enable you to effectively manage multidisciplinary teams and navigate complex stakeholder relationships.

Your expertise includes working in remote or FIFO environments, making you adept at handling the unique challenges these projects present. You are well-versed in relevant regulations and standards governing underground construction, ensuring compliance and maintaining the highest safety standards.

You are a proactive problem-solver with the ability to anticipate potential issues and develop effective mitigation strategies. Your ability to foster a culture of teamwork, inclusiveness, and collaboration aligns perfectly with Hydrostor's values. What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, with a focus on underground cavern development and major civil engineering projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in remote or FIFO (Fly-In-Fly-Out) environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards governing underground construction projects.
