Role description:
At Arcadis, we are leading the charge in delivering the infrastructure that will power Australia’s energy transition. As we expand our renewables portfolio, we are seeking a Technical Director – Energy & Civil Infrastructure to shape the design and delivery of civil works across some of the nation’s most ambitious and transformative clean energy projects.
In this role, you will take an influential leading role in the civil design and integration of large-scale renewable projects, including solar farms, wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), pumped hydro, HV substations, and transmission infrastructure. You’ll bring your expertise in civil and road design to support both temporary and permanent infrastructure in remote and regional settings.
You’ll collaborate with national and global experts across Arcadis, and play a key role in shaping practical, constructable solutions that enable a resilient, low-emissions energy future.
- Lead and deliver civil infrastructure components of renewable energy projects including Solar and wind farm civil balance of plant, Battery storage facilities (BESS), Pumped hydro access and surface works, HV substations and transmission line corridor civils
- Provide technical leadership across road geometry, earthworks, drainage, stormwater management, construction access, laydown areas, and temporary works.
- Drive constructability, cost-efficiency, and risk mitigation through all design phases from feasibility to detailed design and construction support.
- Integrate environmental, geotechnical, and hydrological inputs into practical and innovative civil solutions, particularly in challenging terrain or sensitive environments.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, environmental, geotechnical, protection, and electrical engineers.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and contribute to technical capability uplift across Arcadis’ civil and renewables practice.
- Act as civil engineering lead during client reviews, technical workshops, and industry engagement.
- Support project pursuits and bid development by shaping scope, resourcing, delivery methodologies, and value-adds aligned with client expectations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent; Postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) required.
- Registration on the National Engineering Register (NER) required.
- RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland) preferred.
- RPEV (Registered Professional Engineer of Victoria) preferred.
- 20+ years of experience in civil engineering, with a mix of road and infrastructure delivery and renewable energy project involvement.
- Demonstrated experience on projects for solar farms, wind farms, substations, BESS, and/or pumped hydro schemes.
- Proven ability to lead complex multidisciplinary design packages and interface with contractors, utilities, and government stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of relevant design standards including Austroads, D&C frameworks, and Australian Standards.
- Experience in both public infrastructure and private sector energy projects will be highly regarded.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership skills.
