Role description:
Arcadis is looking for a Business Area (BA) Director in Europe. our ideal candidate may be located anywhere within Netherlands, Germany or Belgium.
The purpose of this role is to grow the respective Business Area (BA) presence in Europe, aligning with the overall Arcadis strategy and financial targets.
Role accountabilities:
As a BA Director your role accountabilities will include:
Implement the BA strategy:
- Influence Global strategy and implement it within local context through prioritizing and outside in view of client needs and ambitions, as well as a people first culture building on our passion for improving quality of life.
- Embed cross Global Business Area (GBA) strategic themes in the organization to mobilize intelligence and collaboration in consideration of key priorities , e.g., brand, digital and enterprise asset management, sustainability, standardization, and automation.
- Collaborate with your global network to enable external sector benchmarking and advisory related client engagements, as well as focus, scale and efficiency.
Delivery of financial and target performance:
- Own operational and financial performance in line with overall Arcadis strategy and targets of the BA on global and EU level.
- Continuously improve BA’s competitive position through strong client focus, investments in capabilities (e.g., technical expertise, commercial skills), drive in cost competitiveness, and talent management
Represent Arcadis to top BA accounts in country:
- Represent the business area in the local markets and the key clients associated to the business area
- Leverage global network of expertise to strengthen GBA cross-selling and drive “fit-for-purpose” growth to meet market and client demands (e.g., holistic view to identify areas of client focus to double-down).
- Grow and expand strategic Growth area’s like Energy, Power, Water and Climate to make our GBA fit for future and leverage market trends
- Develop integrated propositions across GBA’s for clients.
Role Model the Arcadis Way:
- Stimulate cooperation across GBA’s, and utilization of the global network.
- Act as a visible steward of health and safety, sustainability, and inclusivity.
- Statutory directorship for the country with other BA Directors and or Sales Directors including e.g., in control statement.
- Together with other BA Directors, improve health of the organization and corporate responsibility (e.g., diversity, inclusivity, equality, employee satisfaction, retention).
- Together with the BA Sales Director, prioritize key client to develop account and growth plans.
- Together with the BA Finance and BA Operations:
- Identify and manage financial and operational risks
- Monitor and report the financial performance
Decision rights:
- European BA priorities (e.g., project delivery – International collaboration & work-sharing between countries – Global Excellence Centres collaboration).
- European BA revenue (approx. 250 mln revenue), costs, profitability (>15% EBITA), growth, ensuring profit and cash to plan / target.
- Country statutory responsibilities.
- Growth priorities (e.g., key sector and key accounts plans).
Vetoes:
No go decisions on pursuits. Mis-aligned investments and priorities to growth and profit targets.
Qualifications & Experience:
The candidate should have a bachelor or master's degree and at least 10+ years of experience leading and growing a significant business function within a multinational engineering or professional services firm. The candidate will be able to demonstrate significant client engagement, leadership capability and the ability to inspire multi-disciplinary teams around a common purpose.
Qualifications in financial/business management, client experience, innovation and leadership are highly desirable, as is professional membership of relevant business institutions, industry boards or sector focused organizations.
Ideally, the candidate will have built a strong market reputation and personal brand through thought leadership, market-facing activities and representing Arcadis at external opportunities, ideally in the Business Area. An existing track-record in one of the Resilience market sectors is key (e.g. Water – Energy)

• General management: Lead a significant P&L (>150 mln revenue) and operations ((>1000 FTE), developing strategy and successfully driving accountability through KPIs and behavior.
