About Goodlawyer
At Goodlawyer, we’re reimagining what it means to build a modern legal career — and how businesses access world-class legal talent. We help Canada’s most ambitious companies get the right legal support at the right time through flexible, fractional and embedded legal solutions. Whether it’s a Fractional General Counsel, Fractional In-House, or Full-Time Secondments, we make it simple for businesses to scale confidently with trusted legal expertise. Our mission is bold and clear: to become the most desirable way to practice law. We’re a fast-growing tech-enabled company proudly headquartered in Calgary, powered by a team that is driven, collaborative, and deeply committed to winning together. We take our work seriously, but we enjoy the ride and the people on it.
Job Overview:
We’re hiring an Account Executive to own the full sales cycle for Goodlawyer’s fractional and embedded legal solutions, from qualified first meeting through signed engagement. This is not a traditional AE role. You won’t be responsible for lead generation or cold outreach. You’ll lead qualified client conversations and run a structured discovery process to assess legal needs, design the right solution, and guide engagements to close. You’ll work directly with General Counsel, senior operators, and executives at high-growth, mid-market, and enterprise companies to understand legal needs, position Goodlawyer appropriately, and guide the engagement process. This is a consultative, high-trust sale. Success comes from strong discovery, clear communication, sound judgment, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders including buyers, talent and leadership. This is not a high-volume or transactional sales role — credibility, judgment, and client trust matter more than activity metrics. This role is a strong fit for in-house lawyers. We’re particularly excited about candidates who have worked as in-house counsel and want to apply their legal judgment, commercial instincts, and stakeholder management skills in a client-facing role. If you’ve been the buyer of legal services — managing risk, budgets, and executive expectations — you’ll have a meaningful advantage in this role.
Work Environment:
Type: Full-Time | Hybrid (3 days in office) Reports To: Chief Operating Officer
Responsibilities:

Own the Sales Cycle

  • Own qualified opportunities through the full sales process, from first meeting to close
  • Conduct discovery calls to understand client needs, priorities, and constraints
  • Position Goodlawyer’s fractional, embedded, and secondment legal solutions
  • Advance opportunities through proposals, interviews, and close

Discovery & Solution Design

  • Lead structured, high-quality discovery conversations
  • Identify where Fractional General Counsel, embedded lawyers, or project support create the most value
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineering, Sales Enablement and Goodlawyer Leadership to design tailored solutions
  • Apply legal and commercial judgment to scope risk, resourcing, and engagement structure

Proposal & Deal Execution

  • Partner with Sales Engineering and Sales Enablement to prepare proposals, pricing, and role scopes
  • Present proposals and guide clients through evaluation and decision-making
  • Address objections, align on scope, and move deals to close

Lawyer Interviews & Client Guidance

  • Introduce and position lawyer candidates to clients
  • Facilitate lawyer interviews and support client decision-making

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Pipeline Management

  • Work closely with Sales Enablement and Account Management to ensure smooth handoffs
  • Maintain accurate pipeline data, notes, and forecasts in HubSpot
  • Share customer insights with Goodlawyer Leadership
Qualifications:
  • Experience in mid-market or enterprise sales, professional services/consulting, or in-house legal environments (typically 3–8+ years)
  • Strong discovery-led, consultative selling skills
  • Comfortable selling to General Counsel, executives, and senior operators
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder deals
  • Clear, confident communicator (written and verbal)
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and accountable

Prior in-house legal experience or experience selling to corporate legal departments is a significant advantage, and candidates with these backgrounds will be prioritized in the hiring process.

Former in-house lawyers can excel here because the work mirrors what they’ve already done: diagnosing legal risk, structuring resourcing solutions, navigating executive stakeholders, and guiding decisions under uncertainty — without practicing law or giving legal advice.

Compensation:
  • Competitive compensation package (base salary plus commission)
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits
  • Stock option eligibility
  • Hybrid work model: three days in-office for collaboration and connection
  • Clear growth pathways as the company scales
Application Process:
