We have an exciting freelance opportunity with our client.

We are looking for Video transcription linguists.

Project Details

  • Project Description: Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of English language. Understand US English and must be able to transcribe accented language.
  • Geo Location: Full remote
  • Work Weekend or Weekday: Weekday
  • Project Start Date: soon

As outlined in the project description, we are specifically looking for experienced linguists with a Master’s or PhD degree in relevant fields.

  • Candidates will be working using the client’s proprietary tools.
  • Client accounts will be required, and onboarding support will be provided.
  • Selected candidates will be required to sign the client’s paperwork before starting.

Resource Requirements

Proficiency:

  • Exceptional English Comprehension: This is paramount. Look for individuals who can accurately understand various accents, speaking speeds, and nuances in spoken English.
  • Strong Vocabulary and Grammar: A solid grasp of English vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and punctuation is essential for producing accurate and readable transcripts.
  • Excellent Listening Skills: The ability to listen attentively and accurately capture spoken words is fundamental.
  • Attention to Detail: Transcribing requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
  • Familiarity with Transcription Software/Tools: Experience with transcription software, foot pedals, and time-stamping is beneficial but not always mandatory (training can be provided).
  • Typing Proficiency: While comprehension is key, a reasonable typing speed helps with efficiency.
  • Research Skills (Optional but helpful): Sometimes, transcribers might need to quickly research names, terms, or topics mentioned in the video.

No of headcounts required: 20 or more

No of hrs required: up to 8 hours

Education Background needed: MA in English / Diploma or PhD holders in English

Level of experience: L2 or L3

Work Experience:

  • Transcription Experience: Naturally, prior experience in transcription is a big plus. This shows they understand the nuances of converting spoken language to text accurately and efficiently. Any experience with video transcription specifically is even better!
  • Proofreading/Editing: Experience in proofreading or editing demonstrates a keen eye for detail, grammar, punctuation, and spelling – all crucial for producing high-quality transcripts.
  • Content Writing/Copywriting: While not directly transcription, experience in creating written content highlights strong language skills, vocabulary, and an understanding of clear communication.
  • Customer Service/Call Centers (in English): Roles requiring active listening and understanding spoken English in real-time can translate well, showcasing their comprehension abilities.
  • ESL Tutoring/Teaching: Experience in teaching English as a Second Language often indicates a deep understanding of the language and the ability to discern different accents and speaking styles.
