We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Cloud Optimization Specialist who will be responsible for evaluating our cloud resources and identifying opportunities for optimization, cost-efficiency, and performance enhancement. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!
What you’ll do:
As a Cloud Optimization Specialist you will need to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, system administrators, and operations teams, to achieve seamless integration of cloud-based services and applications. Your expertise in cloud technologies and DevOps practices will be instrumental in enhancing our cloud environments and driving operational excellence.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Cloud Resource Evaluation: Analyze our existing cloud infrastructure to identify inefficiencies, underutilized resources, and potential optimization opportunities. This includes but is not limited to virtual machines, storage, networking, and other cloud services.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and manage cloud resource usage to ensure cost-effective provisioning and appropriate scaling based on demand. Work collaboratively with the finance and development teams to reduce cloud-related costs while ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Performance Improvement: Continuously improve the performance and reliability of cloud-based applications by fine-tuning configurations, monitoring performance metrics, and proactively addressing bottlenecks. Recommend and implement strategies to enhance the overall performance of our cloud-based applications and services through resource optimization and fine-tuning.
  • Automation and Script Review: Conduct reviews of automation scripts and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) templates to identify potential areas of improvement. Utilize tools such as Terraform, Python, and Powershell for infrastructure automation. Collaborate with the finance team to maximize cost reduction through automation changes.
  • Monitoring, Reporting, and Data Consolidation: Develop tools and solutions to gather both operational and financial data. Consolidate data into meaningful reports that offer insights to stakeholders, such as the finance and engineering teams.
  • Capacity Planning: Forecast future resource requirements based on business growth projections and ensure the cloud infrastructure can scale accordingly.
  • Cloud Best Practices: Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging cloud technologies to recommend improvements and innovative solutions.

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • 3+ years experience in cloud infrastructure management and optimization, preferably with major cloud providers such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture, deployment models, and services (VMs, databases, load balancers, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of DevOps principles and practices including CI/CD, version control, and automated testing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in resource optimization, cost management, and performance tuning within cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and PowerShell for automation purposes.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools for cloud-based environments (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Superset).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
