About G2V Optics

G2V Optics is a global leader in smart, precision lighting and is committed to creating enabling technologies to power the world of tomorrow. G2V currently provides technology solutions to world-leading researchers, Fortune 500 technology firms, and aerospace companies in over 40 countries.

G2V sells several solar simulation product lines globally and enables our customers to develop solutions for a more sustainable built-world. Our customers use G2V's photons to drive the most critical developments in solar renewable energy, reliable advanced materials, and space exploration of this decade and beyond. Across the value chain of each of these sectors, highly reliable lighting is needed to develop, manufacture, process and test the devices and outputs in each case. Our software-controlled Engineered Sunlight™ technology acts as a foundation to replicate geography-, season-, and altitude-specific natural lighting environments, as well as create light which matches the spectrum, uniformity, and stability requirements of scientific standards.

We are an agile team that functions on a startup-style culture based on quick learning, honesty and personal development, flexibility, and balance.

Summary

We are seeking a Applications Engineer with a high-degree of systems-level-thinking and project coordination capability in the manufacturing and electronics sector, ideally with experience in the optics or instrumentation.

Reporting to the CEO, you will work with G2V’s key customer partners to integrate G2V’s “light engine” technology into semi-custom equipment and large installations that are ultimately used for test, measurement, and reliability in the solar module, aerospace, and advanced materials sectors worldwide. You will collaborate with G2V’s Sales, Product Development, and Operations teams to ensure customer success through an entire project lifecycle – starting from pre-project planning, through customer design & technical information coordination, internal cost-scope-schedule management, and ultimately system commissioning.

We are a fast-paced, dynamic scale up that knows how to focus for success. You will be comfortable working in such an environment, bringing your own experience and skills in achieving the timely wins that are required for the success of the company and our customers. You will be hungry to learn and take on new challenges – while also willing to share your expertise with colleagues for overall team success.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact between G2V and customer engineering teams to empower the latter to create world-leading turnkey equipment based on G2V’s products, throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Maintain good day-to-day control of priorities across multiple projects, while tracking and reporting progress to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Product Development and Operations teams to imaginatively navigate the constraints of budget, schedule and scope to deliver highest value to G2V’s customers.
  • Generate, improve, and coordinate technical information, both internally and externally, in the form of requirements, specifications, designs, drawings, and work instructions to enable customer engineering teams to achieve increasingly complex design with increasing independence.
  • Create cost estimates, design outlines, and project plans in rough and fine resolution to assist in the technical assessment and sales cycle for new projects.
  • Participate in systems-level decision making, sourcing, and problem solving.
    • Bring a solutions-oriented approach. Enjoy identifying and solving problems with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and participate hands-on when necessary.
    • Contribute to the ongoing development of a useful and meaningful Quality Management System (QMS), including creating and maintaining documentation, NCRs, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Please note: This role will require up to 20% of international travel to visit customer sites. While the specific travel locations and timing will be irregular, you should expect a maximum amount of travel in the range of 10 trips annually.

Target Skills & Qualifications

  • At least, Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 5 years’ experience participating in multidisciplinary project teams to develop complex engineering systems, with knowledge of manufactured optics or electronic products preferred.
  • Recent, related Project Management experience demonstrating the ability to prepare, negotiate, and manage budgets, timelines, and project scope to successful customer outcomes – you’ll naturally be great with spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated applied systems-level understanding across mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, and control systems fields, with an ability to prepare, review, and interpret technical and information – you’ll know your way around product datasheets, wiring diagrams, and CAD models.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment of ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Good communications, problem solving skills, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational capabilities.
  • Experience of working within quality management system such as ISO 9001 or equivalent

Mandatory Employment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel internationally to customer sites with a potential for security clearance and visa requirements.

Why G2V?

  • Opportunity to join an innovative and energetic team of professionals who are passionate about green energy and sustainability.
  • Competitive compensation package, including medical and dental benefits, Health and Lifestyle Spendings Account and Paid Time Off.
  • G2V observes all holidays and “optional” holidays (i.e.: Family Day, August Long Weekend, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation).
  • Flexible working hours when possible, including time off for medical and dental appointments
  • Planned social and wellness team building events
