The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial reporting process related to Revenue through the performance of monthly close procedures, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of internal and external reporting, monitoring and ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures, preparing detailed financial analyses and reporting, maintain financial records, supporting documentation and reconciliations and perform special projects as needed. This role will be responsible for helping to drive the implementation and maintenance of key accounting policies related to revenue recognition while working to streamline and scale Flipp’s accounting operations. This is a full-time contract for 12-18 months.
What you'll get the opportunity to do:
Support Financial Reporting Process
- Support the monthly close process by preparing workpaper documentation and account reconciliations
- Own monthly revenue recognition process including reviewing deferred and unbilled revenue
- Produce monthly gross margin analysis across all revenue streams
- Assist in variance analysis review of financial statement transactions as part of the period-end close process
- Build upon the current revenue recognition processes
- Research technical accounting issues - e.g. preliminary assessment of new revenue streams, impact of accounting standard adoption
- Help develop and implement new systems and internal controls
- Build relationships with partners across the organization to ensure complete and accurate accounting
Financial Audits and Regulatory Reporting
- Support with the external audit process
- Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance, including implementation of needed process updates
- Manage ad-hoc tax inquiries - i.e. tax impact of new revenue streams, tax impacts on individuals, inquiries from US tax authorities
Tax Compliance Management
- Prepare support and compile information requested by external tax consultants for annual corporate tax filings (US and Canada)
- Support external tax consultants with ad-hoc nexus analyses and tax credit and incentive projects
- Manage ad-hoc tax inquiries - i.e. tax impact of new revenue streams, tax impacts on individuals, inquiries from US tax authorities
Ad-hoc Special Projects & Analysis
- Proactively review current procedures and seek ways to improve them via the implementation of new tools, systems, and processes
- Assist in documenting and establishing a strong controls environment through the enhancement and management of accounting systems and controls
- Perform ad-hoc requests and in-depth analysis as requested
What you'll bring to the team:
- 4+ years of accounting experience
- Completed or pursuing a professional accounting designation (CPA)
- US GAAP knowledge is an asset
- Salesforce and NetSuite experience is an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and complex Excel spreadsheets
- Excellent interpersonal skills – able to work effectively as a team member
- Ability to pick up responsibilities quickly and work with limited direction
- Ability to identify and help implement potential process improvements and controls
