We’re looking for our next Social Video Producer. Could It Be You?
QuestMedia is the new, in-house, multi-format content division launched by Questrade to reimagine how Canadians learn about money, markets, and their financial lives. Our flagship publication, The Margin, covers money and the culture around it for Canadians who want more than the typical personal finance advice column. We’re building a media brand with a genuine point of view – and we need someone who can bring that voice to life on screen.
The Social Video Producer will be a core member of the team, working directly with editorial, creative and social teammates to build and grow The Margin’s presence across social platforms - primarily through the power of short-form video, and eventually, longer-format channels such as YouTube and other streaming networks.

Reporting to the Social Media Strategy Manager, the Social Video Producer will own the creation of organic video and multimedia content for The Margin’s social channels (including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and more). You’ll help shape how our editorial stories translate into scroll-stopping visual content, and will be involved from end-to-end: pitching, storyboarding, filming, editing and publishing. While video is your bread and butter, you’re also comfortable producing static graphics and other social-friendly formats when the story calls for it, tracking engagement and interacting with users if needed.
The Margin isn’t a traditional finance site. We’re looking for a creative storyteller who’s obsessively online, follows trends, loves memes and can tell visual stories with humour, energy and personality.
In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Video production: Pitch, storyboard, script, shoot, and edit short-form video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube Shorts. You’ll turn The Margin’s editorial content into compelling visual stories – and bring your own original ideas to the table, too.
- On-set expertise: Serve as the technical lead on shoots, whether in-studio or on location. You know how to get great lighting, clean audio, solid performances and strong camera work without a massive crew or budget.
- Post-production: Edit in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, Canva and/or other equivalent tools. You’re comfortable with colour grading, motion graphics, sound mixing, and creating the kind of polished-but-not-sterile output that works on social.
- Social content creation: Produce content across formats – primarily video, but occasionally static graphics, photos, carousels, and text-based posts that maintain The Margin’s identity and voice.
- Audience engagement: Monitor social-listening tools and platform analytics to inform what we make next. When it makes sense, you'll engage directly with our community — replying to comments, jumping into conversations, and helping build The Margin into a social voice people actually want to follow.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Social Media Strategy Manager, the editorial team, and external contributors to develop content calendars and ensure our social output reflects what’s happening on the site and in the broader conversation around money and culture.
- Long-form video development: As QuestMedia grows, you’ll play a key role in building out our longer-form video capabilities – think YouTube-friendly podcast episodes, in-depth interviews, and other formats that extend The Margin’s voice beyond the feed..
So are YOU our next Social Video Producer? You are if you…
- Are a digitally savvy storyteller that can take an editorial idea and figure out how to spin it into a 30-second Reel, a TikTok series, or a five-minute YouTube segment.
- Understand how people actually consume content on social platforms – and know how to adapt when behaviours or algorithms change.
- Move fast, embrace unconventional ideas, have strong production chops, and are excited to help build something new in a fast-moving, small-team environment where you’ll have an outsized impact.
- Have 3+ years of experience in video production, social media content creation, or digital media. Experience at a media company, newsroom, or digital publisher is a bonus, but strong work from agency, freelance, or brand-side roles counts too.
- Have a portfolio or reel that demonstrates range and a point of view. We want to see work that shows you can tell a story visually – not just technically competent edits, but content that has voice, personality, and an understanding of audience.
- Have strong technical skills across the production pipeline. You know your way around camera systems, lighting rigs, and audio recording. In post, you’re proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Familiarity with tools like Photoshop, Figma, or Canva for static/graphic content is a plus.
- Understand social-native content. You know what works on Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube – and more importantly, you know why it works. You’re fluent in trends, but also know when to be original.
- Have a creative and editorial mindset. You can pitch ideas and develop concepts that translate complex or dry topics (like finance) into content people actually want to watch.
- Can work quickly without sacrificing quality. Social moves fast. You’re comfortable with tight turnarounds and know how to prioritize when everything feels urgent.
- Have a collaborative mindset. You take feedback well, you’re willing to iterate, and you’re excited to be part of a small team where everyone’s input matters.
- Have a Bachelor’s degree in film, media production, journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Additional kudos if you…
- Have experience with finance, business, or economics content – or a genuine curiosity about it
- Have on-camera presence or hosting experience
- Have familiarity with social listening tools (e.g. Sprout Social), YouTube channel strategy or audience growth
Compensation Information:
- Base salary range: $70,000 - $90,000
- The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
