We’re looking for our next Principal Back-End Engineer. Could It Be You?

The Principal Back-End Engineer will be involved in the development of functionally rich, robust and scalable back-end GenAI and AI applications through all stages of the Agile software development process from inception to implementation. This person will lead the technical design and implementation of internal and external applications and collaborate with architects, product and business teams to deliver value. The ideal candidate for this role should be able to thrive in dynamic environments, have a strong work ethic, positive energy and the ability to innovate.

• Developing and debugging code as well as writing automated tests for back-end applications
• Planning, designing and coordinating software development activities and mitigating the technical risks throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Reviewing code to ensure quality and correctness of solutions
• Enhancing and modifying existing applications as needed to add new features or improve user-experience
• Meeting regularly and interacting with a diverse team of business stakeholders, architects and engineers to elicit and define requirements for new applications.
• Playing an active role in defining and implementing best practices, standards and procedures including quality and delivery methodologies
• Participating in and contributing to all Agile Scrum ceremonies
• Leading the support efforts of the application in production, addressing issues in a timely fashion.
• Providing mentoring to team members to assist them in reaching their career goals.
• Applying significant knowledge of industry trends to help Questrade improve and build innovative products.
• Coordinating external software development teams and vendors to define requirements and validate outputs.
• Degree, diploma or equivalent directly related work experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in web-based technologies.
• Exposure to the full software development life cycle, including design, configuration, integration, testing and support including, but not limited to, gathering requirements, designing the future state solution, the development work breakdown, as well as supporting quality assurance and post-production efforts.

• Back-end: .Net core and Python
• Infrastructure: Google Kubernetes Engine, and other Google Cloud Platform components.
• Tools: Gitlab, Jira, Confluence, preferably automated CI/CD.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks.
• Strong skills at application performance tuning.
• Have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with multiple levels of stakeholders.
• Strong documentation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent time-management and organizational abilities that facilitate structured teamwork
• Experience leading projects and other engineers
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Ability to adapt and change based on new business requirements and environment.

Additional kudos if you…

• Data Science or GenAI experience is a nice to have.
• Digital financial services experience preferred.
