About the role

As our Senior UX Researcher, you’ll leverage your expertise to guide customers on how to practice inclusive and accessible research through coaching as well as leading by example. When working with customers, you will strive to understand their unique challenges at the intersection of research and accessibility, to help them improve their understanding of both disciplines all while centering the voices of people with disabilities.

As part of the Managed Services Team, you will work with a team of accessibility researchers and specialists to provide support to a set number of customers. For these customers, you collaborate to understand their research goals, conduct generative or evaluative user research studies with assistive technology users, provide guidance on how to action insights from the research. This is conjunction with being a mentor to the Fable team’s internal group of researchers.

This role involves regularly engaging with people with disabilities and requires a candidate who is sensitive, respectful and who has the ability to tailor their processes to meet individual requirements. The ideal candidate is excellent at independent problem-solving, is adaptable, and comfortable with the growth and changes of a dynamic work environment. Fable is a rapidly growing and busy team. The Senior UX Researcher must be open to leveraging their diverse skill sets in support of our growing team and be flexible to the changing business needs of Fable.

This individual will actively foster collaboration both inside and outside of the team; who will promote inclusive experiences. We are seeking an individual who has a keen sense of prioritization and can effectively manage multiple high-level projects without sacrificing the quality of their work.

For this role, we are open to applicants who are located in Canada. Experience with assistive technology, engaging with assistive technology users, and understanding accessible design practices are all considered strong assets for this role. Examples of day-to-day activities:

  • Attend weekly check-in meetings with designated customers to ensure their projects are on track
  • Define and scope a research roadmap to enable customer’s overarching accessibility goals
  • Conduct a user interview with an assistive technology user while a customer rides along in the call
  • Join a coaching call to provide a customer feedback on their written discussion guide
  • Collaborate with other UX researchers who are supporting running research for your dedicated customers
  • Host a shareout meeting to share insights from the research as well as foster customer involvement in the research
  • Review and provide feedback on deliverables from other UX researchers on the Fable team

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct generative and evaluative research with assistive technology users on digital products (such as websites, web-apps, mobile apps and software) on behalf of Fable’s customers
  • Collaborate with customers’ accessibility specialists, project managers, designers and engineers to scope usability research
  • Analyze and synthesize takeaways from user research
  • Prioritize takeaways and provide guidance where applicable for customer next steps
  • Maintain internal research templates and repositories
  • Coach customers on accessibility research best practices
  • Work with customers to mature their research and/or accessibility practices
  • Provide clear and timely project updates to both customers and internal management
  • Support other UX researchers with coaching and review cycles of research artifacts

Requirements

Skills and qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in a UX Research role
  • Skilled in facilitation of user interviews
  • Able to manage multiple customer timelines and delegate tasks to other team members
  • Able to define research goals, articulate hypotheses and apply the best research methods for a wide range of problems
  • Experience translating research findings into actionable recommendations
  • Strong analytical, communication and team skills
  • Ability to communicate and change communication strategies to accommodate a wide range of project stakeholders including executives, managers, researchers, designers and engineers
  • Compassionate and patient demeanour with confidence and assertion to get things done
  • Active listening and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build relationships and connect with people quickly
  • Organized and able to manage a large volume of tasks independently
  • Confidence to manage difficult situations and conversations
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to navigate apps and software
  • Strong analytical, communication and team skills
  • Experience with assistive technology, engaging with assistive technology users, and understanding accessible design practices

Nice to haves:

  • Candidates that have credentials like IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies, Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) certification or an equivalent
