About the Role - We are looking for an Associate Automation Specialist to join our growing team. If you’re passionate about automation and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment, this role is perfect for you!
Responsibilities
- Provide remote troubleshooting and support for electrical, instrumentation, and control components on gas compressor units and related field equipment.
- Assist customers and field personnel with Modbus protocol setup and diagnostics (RS-485, TCP/IP).
- Guide customers through the inspection and troubleshooting of control panels, including interpretation of electrical schematics and I/O maps.
- Work collaboratively with engineering and field teams to resolve escalated technical issues.
- Use ticketing systems to log support cases, document actions taken, and provide clear resolution notes.
- Maintain up-to-date records of support trends, recurring issues, and suggest improvements to product or documentation.
- Contribute to internal and customer-facing knowledge base content, including FAQs and troubleshooting guides.
- Ensure all advice given aligns with industry safety standards and company best practices.
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in one of the following (or related) disciplines:
- Electrical Engineering Technology
- Automation or Control Systems Engineering
- Instrumentation Engineering
- Mechatronics or Industrial Technology
Required Skills
Automation Systems & Remote Diagnostics
- Strong foundational knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems used in gas compression and well site equipment.
- Ability to remotely assist with installation and troubleshooting of control panels, automation components, and communication protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Modbus protocols (RTU over RS-485 and TCP/IP), including common communication failure diagnosis.
- Working knowledge of PLC systems and HMI platforms for remote configuration and user support.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and wiring layouts to guide customers or field technicians.
Customer-Facing Technical Support
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain technical concepts to operators, technicians, and engineers.
- Ability to analyze customer-reported issues, deliver step-by-step troubleshooting, and escalate complex problems when needed.
- Proficient with ticketing systems, CRM platforms, and digital knowledge bases to document and manage support cases.
Analytical & Problem-Solving
- High level of critical thinking and independent troubleshooting, especially for complex issues not covered by existing procedures.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, juggle multiple customer requests, and maintain a professional, solutions-focused demeanor.
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately document support interactions, including diagnostics performed, resolutions provided, and recommended follow-up actions.
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing by maintaining FAQs, support guides, and common issue documentation.
Compliance Awareness
- Understanding of field-related safety protocols sufficient to guide customers on safe practices.
- Familiarity with hazardous area classifications, instrumentation safety, and control system standards, even if not field-applied.
Preferred Skills
- Working knowledge of compressor stations, remote telemetry units (RTUs), and common upstream oil & gas infrastructure.
- Familiarity with structured troubleshooting methodologies or root cause analysis frameworks used in industrial environments.
- Experience supporting or configuring annunciators and PLCs, including systems such as Murphy and Altronic.
- Exposure to field instrumentation calibration, including pressure, temperature, and flow sensors.
- Multilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish or Portuguese) are a plus for supporting diverse field teams.
- Prior experience in customer support, help desk, or field service roles in automation, oil & gas, or industrial sectors.
