Job Description

YOUR PROFIL

You are recognized for your autonomy and your ability to estimate the costs associated with large scale industrial projects, as well as for your analytical and critical thinking in revising cost estimates. Your expertise extends to coordinating the different components of these projects with various stakeholders, while ensuring a rigorous assessment of needs in terms of equipment and resources. There's little you can't master when it comes to estimating complex heavy industrial installations. In addition, you are driven by the desire to have a significant impact both in your professional field, your work environment and on the world by contributing to innovative initiatives that rethink waste management and production of'renewable energy.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

Upon arrival, as an Estimation Specialist, you will support project delivery teams by providing your expertise in preparing detailed estimates for high-profile projects. You will also be responsible for estimating internal engineering costs and Enerkem's proprietary technology equipment. In addition, you will be called upon to use your judgment, your advanced knowledge of estimation and your extensive experience in the petrochemical and/or biofuels industry to critically review the detailed project estimates of our partners and/or service providers and suggest areas for improvement. You may be called upon to play a mentoring role with colleagues by sharing your experience as well as guiding them in the establishment of best practices and the ongoing search for professional development. You will report to the Director of Project Services. This is an opportunity to collaborate with a great team while enriching your career and working on Enerkem's unique disruptive technology.

YOUR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead cost estimation for major infrastructure projects ($100-1500M), demonstrating high-level of autonomy and expertise.
  • Evaluate costs of Enerkem's proprietary technology equipment, identifying areas of uncertainty and applying appropriate allocations
  • Review drawings to determine scope of work and estimate details.
  • Conduct critical reviews of detailed project cost estimates, offering recommendations for further development and identifying cost reduction opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with other disciplines (e.g., procurement, planning, engineering) and project managers to ensure alignment in methods, estimation approach and production of required deliverables to projects.
  • Actively participate and influence value engineering efforts, recommending the best solutions based on cost, engineering, quality and availability of materials.
  • Contribute strategically to the preparation of requests for budget estimates and the management of cost databases from past projects in order to provide benchmarks for comparison.
  • Establish effective work processes to continually improve the quality and efficiency of estimates.
  • Support the Cost Control teams in integrating the actual costs of the project to date and the detailed material lists of the “IFC” (Issued For Construction) batches in the production of a Class1 estimate with regard to the construction technology 'Enerkem
  • Participate in project cost estimate reviews submitted by suppliers.

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering, construction management or a related field.
  • Professional experience of at least 10 years in the estimation of industrial projects, ideally in the petrochemical, biofuels, mining or metallurgical industry.
  • Proven expertise in estimating costs of major infrastructure projects ($100-1500M)
  • Proficient in estimating software and project management tools (e.g. MS Excel, MS Access, Primavera, MS Project, Aspen Capital Cost Estimator) with ability to use benchmarking data.
  • Member of AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) or other relevant organization an asset.

YOUR SKILLS

  • Attention to detail and methodical organization of work, with an analytical and critical approach to resolving issues.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and understand technical documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Leadership skills and experience mentoring colleagues, with an ability to inspire and guide.
  • Excellent analytical communication skills, oral and written, in French and English.
  • Team player and good interpersonal skills, with motivation to support other groups and work in a diverse and dynamic environment.
